ROLE SUMMARY:

 

King’s College, The British School of Madrid (Soto de Viñuelas) is seeking an experienced and highly organised Academic Coordinator to lead and oversee the academic programme within the Summer Camp running from 18 June to 25 July 2026. Reporting to the General Camps Director and Deputy Head of Summer Camp, and working in close partnership with the Activities Coordinator, the post-holder will ensure the smooth delivery of English classes, project-based learning, workshops and academic scheduling throughout the programme.

 

This role has responsibility for academic quality, teacher supervision, lesson planning oversight, student grouping, parent communication and incident management, while ensuring safeguarding, health and safety and operational procedures are consistently followed. The Academic Coordinator plays a central role in ensuring a safe, structured and high-quality learning experience for all students.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Co-ordinate the academic programme and timetable, working closely with the Activities Coordinator to align classes, workshops, project-based learning and daily operations.
  • Supervise teachers and academic delivery, including reviewing lesson plans, supporting classroom management and carrying out lesson observations.
  • Support staff preparation, including contributing to recruitment processes and delivering/leading training days and academic briefings.
  • Oversee student grouping and progression across ages and ability levels, ensuring appropriate learning experiences for all students.
  • Maintain academic quality by monitoring student work and supporting consistent standards across the programme.
  • Manage communication with parents, addressing queries or concerns and supporting the end-of-session student work exhibition for families.
  • Uphold safeguarding, health and safety procedures, responding to incidents appropriately and supporting off-site excursions where required.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

 

  • English language level C1–C2.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with children or in summer camps.
  • At least 3 years’ teaching experience.
  • Experience supervising teachers and managing academic programmes.
  • Ability to manage groups of 10–15 students across different ages and ability levels.
  • Experience planning, reviewing and evaluating lesson plans, workshops and project-based learning.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and respond appropriately to incidents.
  • Experience supporting teachers and assisting with classroom management.
  • Ability to chaperone excursions and supervise off-site activities.
  • Basic First Aid knowledge (preferable).
  • Ability to lead and supervise excursions, ensuring safety and wellbeing of students and staff.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly within a demanding camp timetable.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.
  • Degree in Education, English, Linguistics or a related field, and/or TEFL certificate, English degree or Teaching degree.
