ROLE SUMMARY:

 

Kings College School Soto de Viñuelas is seeking a dedicated and caring Houseparent to join our boarding community in Tenbury House, our Boarding House. This is a rewarding, demanding, and highly impactful role, central to the wellbeing and development of our boarders (Years 7–13). 

 

The Houseparent leads the daily life of the House, ensuring a safe, supportive and structured environment where students thrive personally, academically, and socially. Working closely with the Head of Boarding and the House team, you will help shape a positive culture rooted in care, good behaviour, consistency and high expectations. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Oversee the House when on duty, ensuring policies and routines are followed.

  • Provide high-quality pastoral care, placing pupils’ welfare, safety and personal development at the centre.

  • Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff and the wider boarding community.

  • Mentor a small number of boarders academically and support their progress.

  • Contribute to staff meetings, training sessions and effective communication within the team.

  • Promote good behaviour, discipline and adherence to school rules and the Code of Conduct.

  • Help organise and lead weekend and evening activities for boarders.

  • Support the smooth operation of House routines (wake-up, prep, sign-in/out, tidiness, uniform).

  • Uphold safeguarding, child protection and confidentiality requirements at all times.

  • Maintain a warm, caring and inclusive House culture where students feel at home.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

 

  • Previous experience in boarding, pastoral care, youth work or education is desirable.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to remain calm and supportive.

  • A genuine interest in the wellbeing and development of young people.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, in line with boarding needs.

  • Commitment to safeguarding and to acting as a positive role model at all times.

  • Willingness to live on-site during term time (accommodation provided).
