Social Studies Teacher

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Wingate School (TWS) is a leading international school in Mexico City and part of Inspired Education Group, a global group of premium schools. We are seeking an experienced and passionate Social Studies Teacher to join our international teaching team, starting in August 2027. The successful candidate will deliver engaging and challenging learning experiences that encourage students to explore historical, geographical, political, economic and cultural perspectives while developing strong critical-thinking, research and communication skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan and deliver engaging, challenging and well-structured Social Studies lessons aligned with the school’s curriculum and international academic standards.
• Develop students’ understanding of history, geography, civics, economics and global issues, as appropriate to the curriculum and year groups taught.
• Encourage critical thinking, inquiry, debate and independent research, helping students evaluate different perspectives and sources of information.
• Design differentiated learning experiences that respond to students’ individual needs, abilities and learning styles.
• Assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative assessment methods and provide clear, constructive and timely feedback.
• Maintain accurate records of student achievement and use assessment data to inform planning and support individual progress.
• Create an inclusive, respectful and academically ambitious classroom environment that promotes curiosity, collaboration and global citizenship.
• Integrate technology, current affairs and relevant real-world examples into lessons to strengthen students’ understanding and engagement.
• Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum planning, interdisciplinary projects and initiatives across the school.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and school leadership regarding student progress and development.
• Participate actively in school events, extracurricular activities, professional development and the wider life of The Wingate School.
• Promote and uphold the school’s expectations regarding student wellbeing, safeguarding and professional conduct.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

• A bachelor’s degree in History, Geography, Social Sciences, Education or another relevant subject area.
• A recognized teaching qualification such as PGCE or an international equivalent.
• At least 2–3 years of successful teaching experience, ideally within a British or international school environment.
• Experience teaching Social Studies, History, Geography or related subjects at secondary level.
• Experience with the Cambridge/IGCSE curriculum and/or IB programmes is highly desirable.
• Strong subject knowledge and the ability to connect historical and social concepts with contemporary global issues.
• A student-centred approach with experience using inquiry-based, differentiated and engaging teaching strategies.
• Excellent classroom management, communication and interpersonal skills.
• High proficiency in English, with the ability to teach confidently in an English-language international school environment.
• Experience working with students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
• A collaborative and flexible mindset and a willingness to contribute to extracurricular activities and the wider school community.
