ROLE SUMMARY:

The Wingate School (TWS) is an Inspired Education Group school located in Mexico City and an accredited Cambridge International School and IB World School that offers an educational programme focused on academic excellence, creativity, and human formation.

TWS teaches the International Early Years Curriculum in Kinder, the International Primary Curriculum, and the Cambridge Lower Secondary and IGCSE Curriculum, as well as the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, and highly skilled Design & Technology teacher to join our thriving Secondary team. This pivotal role involves teaching Cambridge IGCSE Design & Technology in Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11) and a bespoke STEM/ICT curriculum in Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9). The successful candidate will inspire students to become creative problem-solvers, critical thinkers, and technically proficient designers, fostering practical skills through inquiry-based learning, hands-on challenges, and technological competence

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Effectively teach the Cambridge IGCSE Design & Technology syllabus, including one of the optional specialist areas (Resistant Materials, Systems & Control, or Graphic Products) in Years 10-11, guiding students through coursework and examination preparation.
  • Design, plan, and deliver engaging lessons in Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) that ensure a broad and progressive foundation to effectively prepare students for the IGCSE Design & Technology course.
  • Incorporate elements of engineering principles, basic programming, and ICT skills, including digital research, presentation, and data analysis, into design and making projects in Key Stage 3.
  • Guide students in the safe and effective use of basic workshop tools (e.g., hand tools, dremels, laser cutter, 3D printers, etc.), to enable complex and innovative student projects.
  • Provide instruction in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software for 2D technical drawing, 3D modeling, and rendering, as well as Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) processes specifically for laser cutting and 3D printing.
  • Teach a diverse range of topics such as product design, materials science, sustainable innovation, electronics, and control systems, adapting projects to available equipment.
  • Develop and implement authentic assessment strategies that measure both theoretical understanding and practical competence, aligning with Cambridge IGCSE objectives and formative learning objectives in Years 7-9.
  • Provide timely, constructive, and actionable feedback to students, supporting their continuous progress and skill development.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough records of student attainment, effort, and pastoral care.
  • Foster students’ critical thinking, research skills, and ability to make informed aesthetic, economic, ethical, and technical value judgements.
  • Inspire student participation in design competitions, exhibitions, and relevant extracurricular activities.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • A degree in a relevant design or engineering discipline (e.g., Product Design, Industrial Design, Engineering, Materials Technology, Architecture, Graphics).
  • A recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, B.Ed. or equivalent) valid for secondary education.
  • Experience teaching Design and Technology at Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9), demonstrating an ability to deliver an engaging and progressive STEM/ICT integrated curriculum using technology and basic workshop tools.
  • Successful experience teaching the Cambridge IGCSE Design & Technology (0445) syllabus, with a strong ability to teach theoretical concepts of broader industrial processes while maximizing practical application with available equipment.
  • Familiarity with other international design curricula (e.g., IB MYP Design, IB DP Design Technology) is highly desirable and demonstrates a breadth of pedagogical understanding.
  • Demonstrated expertise and ability to teach the core content of the Cambridge IGCSE Design & Technology syllabus as well as at least one option topic (Resistant Materials, Systems & Control, or Graphic Products). 
  • Strong knowledge of design principles, materials science, electronics, and control systems.
  • High proficiency in operating and maintaining a laser cutter and 3D printers.
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD/CAM software relevant to laser cutting and 3D printing.
  • Ability to integrate basic programming/coding into design projects (e.g., Arduino, micro:bit, Python).
  • A strong theoretical understanding of a wider range of industrial manufacturing processes and CNC machines (e.g., milling, turning), as required by the IGCSE syllabus.
  • A student-centered pedagogical approach that champions inquiry-based learning, independent thought, and creative problem-solving.
  • Excellent organizational skills, classroom management, and the ability to differentiate instruction effectively for diverse learners.
  • A collaborative spirit, strong communication skills, and a willingness to contribute actively to interdisciplinary projects and school development.
  • A genuine commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment and supporting students' holistic development.
