ROLE SUMMARY:
British Council School, Madrid, is seeking a passionate and forward-thinking Teacher of English to join our dedicated Secondary team. You will inspire and support students across Key Stages 3, 4 (English National Curriculum), and 5 (Bilingual Baccalaureate - BiBac®), helping them reach their full academic potential while growing as global citizens.
As a valued member of our school community, you will contribute to the ongoing development of the English department, creating innovative and practical learning experiences that foster deep understanding and enthusiasm for the subject. You will also take on the role of form tutor, providing vital pastoral care and acting as a key point of contact for students and their families.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver an engaging, broad and balanced curriculum in English across Key Stages 3 to 5.
- Encourage high expectations and foster a supportive environment that motivates and challenges pupils.
- Use a variety of effective teaching strategies to meet the needs of all learners.
- Plan, assess, and adapt lessons to ensure progression and measurable outcomes.
- Provide pastoral care as a form tutor, maintaining regular communication with families and staff.
- Contribute to the wider school community and support extracurricular activities when appropriate.
- Follow safeguarding protocols and support student wellbeing.
- Fulfil additional duties as outlined by the line manager, including those in the National Private Schools Collective Agreement.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
Essential:
- A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent) and Qualified Teacher Status.
- Bachelor’s Degree in English or a related subject.
- Successful completion of a teacher training programme with relevant experience in a UK, International or Bilingual school.
- Recent and relevant professional development in Teaching and Learning.
- Proficiency in English at CEFR level C2.
Desirable:
- At least 2 years of recent experience teaching English at secondary level.
- Experience teaching the English National Curriculum.
- Familiarity with Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
- EFL/ESL experience with young learners.
