ROLE SUMMARY:

Teaching Assistant role (Sports and curriculum support in the Senior House)

 

St Anthony’s School for Boys is a highly successful prep school that runs from Reception to Year 8 (inclusive). This is a fantastic opportunity for a young graduate interested in gaining experience at one of London’s best schools. The role will appeal to someone with a sporting background who is keen to coach and assist with Games. All the major sports are played at St Anthony’s, including football, rugby, hockey, tennis and cricket. The school enters for competitive fixtures with other leading prep schools. Sport is taken seriously by the boys and the person appointed will possess a good level of sporting expertise that they will be keen to share. Enthusiasm and a ‘can do’ attitude are essential attributes for success here.

 

In addition to assisting with the school’s sporting provision, the role also includes offering core curriculum support in literacy and numeracy This may involve working under the direction of a class teacher, with small groups or some 1:1 support. Supervision of breaktimes and the running of after-school clubs will also form part of the TA’s brief. The successful candidate will be allocated to the Senior House, which comprises Years 3 – 8.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To assist in delivery of PE sessions under the direction/instruction of a teacher &/or sports teacher. All elements of the role require inclusivity of specific individual learning needs, enabling access for all pupils. This post will focus upon the enhancement of promoting healthy lifestyles, skill development in physical education and promoting participation of physical activity for all pupils.
  • To lead an after school sports clubs
  • To support with curriculum subjects in mainstream classes when PE is not taking place
  • Promote inclusion and acceptance of all pupils, supporting difference and equity
  • Promote self-esteem and independence, employing strategies to recognise and reward achievement within established school procedure.
  • Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement.
  • Promote positive values attitudes and good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents and encouraging pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour in line with established school policy.
  • Set consistently high expectations and promote self-esteem, a growth mindset and independence.
  • Prepare and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive learning environment as directed by the teacher and assist with the display of pupils’ work.
  • Assist in the preparation of class activities, through joint planning with teachers and to organise the availability and care of the classroom equipment and resources necessary for such activities.
  • Administer routine tests, and undertake routine marking of pupils’ work with guidance from the teacher and/or senior leaders.
  • Provide clerical/admin. support e.g. photocopying, mounting artwork etc.
  • Carry out other reasonable tasks as specified by the class teacher or senior leaders.
  •  Teach children how to self-assess and develop lifelong risk assessment skills.
