ROLE SUMMARY:
Wetherby School is a thriving and highly successful non-selective, independent school in Notting Hill with 350 boys, aged 4 to 8. The school is heavily oversubscribed and extremely successful in securing pupils’ entry into the preparatory school of their choice. It is part of the Inspired Group of schools, which is one of the world's leading educational groups.
Wetherby School are looking for a career minded and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our team from September 2025.
The successful applicant will be enthusiastic and confident and will be able to support and inspire children to foster their enthusiasm for learning. They will also have the skills and maturity required to take on the teaching assistant’s duties and responsibilities. A willingness to contribute fully to the extra-curricular activities and life of the school is vital.
A degree qualification or teaching qualification is essential for this role. This post would suit a graduate looking for school based experience before furthering their career in the teaching profession.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To support the classroom teacher at all times.
- To work with the class teacher to foster a warm, caring and friendly environment for the children within the classroom.
- To work with the class teacher in preparing work for the boys, putting up displays and assisting as required within the classroom.
- To carry out delegated tasks set by the class teacher.
- To help ensure that pupils make the maximum amount of progress possible in each lesson.
- To take particular responsibility for hearing the children read on a daily basis, updating their reading records, completing the reading progress book fortnightly and general monitoring that they are reading books at a level appropriate to their needs.
- To support the boys in a range of situations on and off site.
- To conduct lessons (if required) according to the agreed policy and syllabus.
- To maintain discipline in accordance with school policies at all times and to encourage positive practise in relation to general behaviour and approach to school life.
- To work as part of a team with the teachers and assistants within the assigned year group and the rest of the school staff.
- To maintain cordial and informative relationships with parents.
- To provide support for the children in a broad range of situations both on and off-site.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- A degree qualification or teaching qualification would be preferable for this role. This post would suit a graduate looking for school based experience before furthering their career.
- Be IT literate.
- Be committed to making a difference to all children of all abilities and talents, using a variety of teaching styles to aid learning.
- Be a committed, dynamic and pro-active teaching assistant and a cheerful, friendly and cooperative member of the staff.

- Maintain excellent levels of appearance, attendance and punctuality.
- Involve themselves fully in the life of the school.
- Value, and be willing to promote, the caring ethos of the school.
