ROLE SUMMARY:
St Anthony’s is a Catholic Preparatory School (IAPS) for boys aged 4 – 13. It is Roman Catholic but welcomes boys of other faiths. There are currently over 310 pupils on roll and the school is looking to increase this number to 330 over the next few years. The majority of boys transfer to leading Independent schools.
St Anthony’s is now looking to appoint a full-time Teacher of Humanities, who can take up post as soon as possible.
The Humanities Faculty consists of History, Geography and Religious Education. The RE specifications are approved by the Cardinal Archbishop and, as in all Catholic schools, consists of 10% of the total curriculum. Themes focus mostly on the Philosophy of Religion, Ethics and World Religions. The focus is academic rather than catechetical, and the school aims to develop the intellectual, moral and spiritual faculties of each child.
History, Geography and RE are taught throughout the prep school with boys in Years 7 and 8 prepared for Common Entrance (set by the ISEB). The standard of teaching is expected to be high with a number of boys preparing for scholarship exams at the major London day and prestigious boarding schools. Typically, boys will be presenting as GCSE standard, even surpassing it, by the end of Year 8. The successful candidate will be expected to teach boys at Key Stages 2 and 3.
The school takes staff professional development seriously and this would be a good post for an ambitious teacher to gain experience before promotion either with us or elsewhere. The school is owned by Inspired Education Group with schools across London and around the world.
The candidate appointed will be an excellent communicator able to engage pupils of all abilities. They will be aligned with the school’s ethos of ‘Teaching to the Top’, which seeks to bring out the best from every pupil.

- Identify pupils who have special educational needs, and know where to get help in order to give positive and targeted support.
- Design and adapt long, medium and short term plans for all schemes of work taught.
- Mark and monitor pupils’ class and homework providing constructive oral and written feedback, setting targets for future progress
- Contribute to the extra-curricular life of the school;
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- Experience as a Teacher of Humanities
- Understand their professional responsibilities in relation to school policies and practices
- Set a good example to the pupils through presentation and personal conduct
- Evaluate teaching critically and use this to improve effectiveness
- Establish effective working relationships with professional colleagues where applicable
