ROLE SUMMARY:

Wetherby Senior School was founded in 2015. There are approximately 450 boys on roll, all of whom study at least one language for 5 years and we regularly add at least 0.5 of a grade Value Added at both IGCSE and A Level. Our students achieve grades that allow them to gain places at top UK universities such as; Cambridge, LSE, Imperial, Durham and UCL and universities aboard such as the University of Chicago, UPenn, Bocconi in Milan and the IE Business School Madrid. 

 

The School was founded to offer a progressive education in the heart of London. The School’s focus on providing an all-round education means that high standards are expected of the boys in all areas of school life. The School provides the boys with a broad educational experience, which includes Philosophy and Thinking Skills in the curriculum, to ensure that they are able to think critically and to problem solve but also to ensure they can be creative and collaborative in their approach, so that they develop a sense of social responsibility and respect for others. Wetherby Senior are now looking for a Teacher of French and Spanish to join them from September 2025 on a part-time basis. At Wetherby Senior School, there is significant interest in learning languages and this post offers an exciting opportunity to lead a vibrant, forward thinking and dynamic department. The team is passionate about languages and there is a collegiate ethos of sharing ideas and best practice. Boys choose two languages from French, German and Spanish to study in lower school. At Key Stage 4, all boys are expected to study at least one Modern Foreign Language, with many choosing two. Boys in Year 10 and 11 prepare for the Pearson Edexcel (9-1) IGCSE and those opting to study A Level follow the AQA specification.

 

The post could suit a talented newly qualified teacher or one with experience looking to develop their career and who would like the freedom and challenge of working in an independent school.  Teaching staff at Wetherby Senior School have experience of teaching in both the maintained and independent sectors and colleagues looking to move into independent education are warmly encouraged to apply.

 

The role is for 30 hours a week (which equates to 4 days per week). It may be possible for the right candidate to offer a day of instrumental music lessons, in addition to make this up to the equivalent of a full-time role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver engaging and high-quality French and Spanish lessons, maintaining high expectations and strong pupil progress across all key stages.
  • Plan and assess effectively, using data to inform teaching and providing constructive feedback to students and parents.
  • Support pupils with additional needs and foster an inclusive, stimulating classroom environment that encourages academic curiosity.
  • Contribute to departmental development by attending meetings, sharing best practice, and creating high-quality resources.
  • Stay current with subject developments and actively participate in CPD and INSET opportunities.
  • Play a key role in enrichment, helping to organise trips, language competitions, and university preparation (UK, USA, and Europe).
  • Support the pastoral care system, including tutor responsibilities and school supervision duties.
  • Get involved in the wider school community through co-curricular activities, aligned with your interests and skills.
  • Attend school events, training, and parents’ evenings, and work collaboratively with colleagues and leadership.
  • Uphold and promote the school’s values and policies, especially around safeguarding, wellbeing, and inclusion.

  • Be able to deliver dynamic and effective lessons to the full ability range of pupils at the School.
