ROLE SUMMARY:

Wetherby Senior School was founded in 2015. There are approximately 450 boys on roll, all of whom study at least one language for 5 years and we regularly add at least 0.5 of a grade Value Added at both IGCSE and A Level. Our students achieve grades that allow them to gain places at top UK universities such as; Cambridge, LSE, Imperial, Durham and UCL and universities aboard such as the University of Chicago, UPenn, Bocconi in Milan and the IE Business School Madrid. 

 

The School was founded to offer a progressive education in the heart of London. Wetherby Senior School is seeking an excellent teacher to have a leadership role within the Maths department working closely with the Head of department and taking the lead on a specific aspect of the department and/or curriculum. The specifics of this role will be determined on the successful candidate's skills and experience. 

The post would suit an ambitious Teacher looking to move into a management role and with a track-record of high quality teaching and excellent results. An ideal candidate would have experience of teaching Maths up to A level and preferably including Further Maths. Teaching staff at Wetherby Senior School have experience of teaching in both the maintained and independent sectors and colleagues looking to move into independent education are warmly encouraged to apply.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Support the Head of Department in strategic planning, curriculum development, resource allocation, and staff deployment.
  • Ensure high standards of teaching and learning, following departmental schemes of work and fostering academic excellence.
  • Monitor and enhance student progress, using assessment methods effectively and implementing school-wide policies.
  • Quality assure the department through learning walks, book scrutiny, observations, and other review measures.
  • Contribute to staff development, identifying training needs and supporting professional growth.
  • Promote enthusiasm for Mathematics, helping to organise enrichment activities, trips, and competitions.
  • Support university applicants, including those applying to Oxbridge, UK, US, and European institutions.
  • Participate in department meetings and administration, fostering teamwork and sharing best practices.
  • Engage in pastoral care, serving as a tutor if required and supporting students' academic and personal development.
  • Contribute to the co-curricular programme, offering activities such as sports, drama, or academic societies.
  • Maintain professionalism, attending staff meetings, training, parents’ evenings, and school events as required.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Outstanding subject knowledge, academic qualifications and to be able to communicate their enthusiasm with the ability to teach A level Maths.
  • The ability to deliver dynamic and effective lessons to the full ability range of pupils at the School.
  • Highly effective communication skills for interacting with all members of the School community.
  • A genuine commitment to pastoral care and the welfare and safeguarding of pupils.
  • Interests and abilities that can enhance the School’s co-curricular programme.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills.
  • Excellent administrative, organisational, and IT skills.
