Contract: Part-time, permanent

Salary: £38,000 minimum (this will be pro-rata'd to reflect 0.5 FTE)

The School Counsellor at King's InterHigh provides personalised, age-appropriate one-to-one counselling support for students, working in line with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework and all safeguarding procedures. The role involves maintaining secure and accurate student records, engaging in professional supervision, and supporting the wider SEN Services Hub through collaboration with staff and leadership teams. The School Counsellor also advises teachers on adaptive strategies to support students’ needs, contributes to staff training and school improvement initiatives, co-delivers workshops for parents, and promotes an inclusive school culture that celebrates diversity and difference. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· To lead and support the curriculum development and teaching of SEN Services Hub courses as specified by SEN Services Hub leadership

· Inspire, motivate and provide purposeful subject knowledge for students within the school

· Be up to date on current research and emerging pedagogy and apply this to your own session delivery and maintain active engagement in professional development with the learning community

· Take a leading role in maintaining a positive and inspirational learning climate in the subject specialism and, where appropriate, the integration of your subject learning across the curriculum

· Support the self-evaluation of the school’s effectiveness and the development of priorities for improvement.

· Assist in maintaining and developing a high-quality school environment and profile and act as a role model by your professional conduct and disposition.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

· Masters degree level qualification in counselling-related subject or equivalent and membership of a counselling professional association such as the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, the National Counselling Society or the UK Council for Psychotherapy is desirable

· Specific training in counselling younger KS2 students appropriate for the role

· Personal skills essential to counselling roles such as discretion, respectfulness, patience, tolerance and resilience

· QTS is desirable as SEN Services Hub colleagues teach wellbeing-related courses as directed by the Head of SEN Services

· Knowledge of the correct safeguarding procedures

· Experience of working in an SEN setting or significant experience of work with SEN young people and their families

· Knowledge of the SEND code of practice and the practical implementation of this across all 4 broad areas of need

· A working knowledge of core processes for young people with SEND such as the graduated approach through assess, plan, do, review, EHCPs, and SEN funding streams

· Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills that showcase a caring and supportive stance to all stakeholders

· Attention to detail, confidence in handling data, and accuracy in work

· Excellent written and communication skills

· Ability to work well in teams

· Change and business improvement-focused

· Able to work effectively in dynamic and changing environments

· Experience with creating resources and the ability to review and enhance our current course delivery

· Computer literate with the ability to teach online using technology application
