ROLE SUMMARY:

Wetherby Preparatory School is an independent preparatory school (ages 7 – 13) set in the dynamic area of Marylebone in London. Wetherby prepares its pupils for many of the top day and boarding senior schools in the country and therefore works at a level significantly above National Curriculum expectations.

Wetherby Preparatory School is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Mathematics Teacher to join its dedicated teaching team. The successful candidate will deliver engaging and challenging mathematics lessons to pupils aged 7–13, supporting them to achieve highly and preparing them for 11+ and 13+ senior school entrance examinations.

The role is available for a January 2027 start, although an April 2027 start may be considered. There is also an opportunity to take on additional responsibility as Head of Year 7 and 8 for a candidate with the relevant experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teach mathematics to pupils in the prep school, delivering engaging and challenging lessons.
• Plan, prepare and deliver lessons to a high standard, using a range of resources and ICT effectively
• Differentiate teaching to meet the needs of all learners, ensuring each pupil can achieve their potential
• Prepare pupils for senior school entrance exams (11+ and 13+) and support their ongoing exam readiness.
• Foster a love of mathematics and create a positive, inclusive classroom environment
• Maintain up-to-date subject knowledge and be proactive in curriculum development
• Participate in, and lead, enrichment and after-school maths clubs and activities
• Assess, record and report on the progress of pupils, providing constructive feedback
• Communicate effectively with parents, carers, colleagues and external agencies as required
• Contribute to the wider life of the school and support school events
• Uphold the school’s safeguarding policies and procedures at all time

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

• QTS or equivalent, with ongoing professional development in mathematics and/or primary/prep teaching.
• Experience teaching mathematics to pupils aged 7–13 in a primary or prep setting.
• Experience preparing pupils for 11+, 13+ or similar entrance exams.
• Experience leading or supporting enrichment and after-school clubs desirable.
• Strong mathematics subject knowledge and understanding of current curriculum requirements.
• Excellent classroom practice, including differentiation for varied abilities.
• Confident use of ICT to support teaching and learning.
• Knowledge of safeguarding, child protection and health & safety requirements.
• Experience assessing, recording and reporting on pupil progress.
• Excellent communication, organisation and teamwork skills.
• Enthusiastic and passionate, with the ability to inspire a love of mathematics.
• High expectations of pupils and commitment to their development.
• Professional, reliable and discreet, with high levels of integrity.
• Commitment to the ethos and values of Wetherby Preparatory School.
