Following the promotion of the current postholder and to further strengthen our key objectives of delivering highly flexible, personalised, and adaptive online learning in the UK and worldwide, we are seeking a Head of SEN Services. The successful candidate will oversee the operation, development and quality assurance of our services for students with special educational needs (SEN) and their families.
We are a highly inclusive school supporting thousands of young people with additional and special educational needs each year. We pride ourselves on providing innovative, personalised learning that meets need through our universal offer and through additional support.
The successful candidate will have a sound understanding of online and digital teaching methods and the range of needs present within our student cohort. They will be able to demonstrate expertise of how to organise learning systems and lead effective teams, particularly understanding what services will provide most benefit to students. They will be able to lead a team of caring, outcome-focused staff that will be deliver real impact in evolving the student experience and the range of services offered.
The successful candidate will lead colleagues in the SEN Services team; internal staff delivering support programmes or interventions and lead other leaders more widely in all matters related to additional needs provision. They will also take responsibility for brokering relevant partnerships and ensuring that these follow appropriate processes to secure value, maintain ambitious standards, are fully safeguarded and that the partnerships are advantageous to the students and to the wider business.
The role will suit an educational leader with an eye for detail, a commitment to delivering the absolute best for students and families, a commercial and innovative mindset, and a desire to ensure that the school can continue to grow efficiently and sustainably to deliver our goals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• To lead staff in designated areas, ensuring the team can deliver exceptional outcomes in identified areas, built on feedback and a drive to constantly improve.
• To ensure that SEN needs of students are being met through the provision of high quality, responsive support and teaching; strategic monitoring of the student experience and outcomes and through quality assurance processes.
• To ensure our universal offer and additional services run effectively and efficiently, with excellent communication to stakeholders across and external to the school about the range of support on offer.
• To build support for students that ensures we are inclusive by design and responsive to the specific needs of our online students, through provision that is both impactful and scalable across a full and growing school.
• Work with the wider leadership team to ensure our offer develop our offer in line with sector needs, taking responsibility for specific projects within the SDP that will improve the experience of students and their families and secure increasing levels of student retention.
• Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction, managing queries and issues in line with procedures and working cross functionally to ensure other teams have access to SEN expertise.
• To coordinate training and guidance for staff on areas relating to SEN.
• To investigate and advise on innovative solutions that improve our SEN offer, make use of tools that automate and personalise and find efficiency for staff in how they perform key tasks.
• Promote ongoing growth mindset for the potential achievement of all students and be ready to take advantage of the significant professional development opportunities offered within the group.
• Undertake a sustained line management responsibility that ensures the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning, effective welfare provision and the upholding of Inspired standards. Undertake any other work as specified by the executive leadership relevant to the role.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
• QTS or equivalent, and other qualifications relevant to the role.
• A track record of delivering excellent outcomes and experiences for students with special educational needs.
• Excellent knowledge of school systems and processes and a high degree of technical competence in running school systems.
• Deep knowledge of the SEN landscape, national guidance, regulations and of the need of learners with special educational needs.
• Good knowledge of the current and future online learning landscape, and excellent communication skills.
• Excellent project management skills

• Motivated to achieve excellence for self and others
• Experience of working with a diverse range of students, and ability to develop a deep understanding of our full range of student requirements in King’s InterHigh & Academy 21
• Excellent knowledge of safeguarding and child protection in relation to school systems and processes
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills that showcase a dynamic and supportive stance to all stakeholders
• Attention to detail, confidence in handling data, and accuracy in work
