Inspired Online Schools is launching a new asynchronous learning product: a self-paced study offer. As the Head of Course Development (Self-paced Learning), you will drive the build phase of this exciting new offer: recruiting the course development team, managing course creation at pace, and delivering a portfolio of GCSE and A-level course on a fixed timeline. As the product moves from build to live operation, there is potential for this role to evolve into a leadership position in the long-term academic and delivery model, depending on performance and business needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own the course production pipeline end to end: scoping, instructional design, cataloguing, content oversight, assessment design, QA, and pilot testing.
  • Define and enforce course structure standards and quality assurance checks so courses are consistent, high quality, specification aligned, and pedagogically sound.
  • Optimise content production for speed, consistency, and cost without compromising academic rigour
  • Track and report progress, surfacing risks and blockers early, and manage the course development budget.
  • Contribute an educator’s perspective to wider decisions on the offer, working with product, marketing, operations, and support teams to ensure a high-quality learner experience.
  • Recruit, onboard, line-manage, and support the development of the course development team, managing team performance and recognising effective practice.
  • Work with the wider Inspired Online Schools leadership to keep delivery aligned with business aims, development plans, and agreed priorities.
  • Manage queries and issues promptly and professionally, working cross-functionally to resolve blockers and maintain a strong learner and stakeholder experience.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Be an experienced educator with strong curriculum and pedagogical understanding, ideally across GCSE/A-Level (KS4/KS5).
  • Have experience leading course or curriculum development — instructional design, content authoring, assessment design, and QA.
  • Have a track record of recruiting and line-managing education staff (teachers, tutors, writers, or instructional designers).
  • Bring programme or project delivery experience — managing a multi-workstream plan to a fixed deadline with budget accountability.
  • Be comfortable in a startup/build environment: change, ambiguity, pace, and creating processes from scratch.
  • Ideally have experience of online, blended, or asynchronous learning delivery, and familiarity with UK exam board requirements.
  • Ideally hold a degree in a relevant subject area and a recognised teaching qualification, such as a PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Have experience leading teams and, ideally, working at school leadership level.
  • Demonstrate a track record of delivering successfully in complex, organisation-wide contexts.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
