ROLE SUMMARY:

Wetherby Senior School was founded in 2015 and is a member of the Inspired Education Group of Schools. There are approximately 450 boys on roll, all of whom study at least one language for 5 years and we regularly add at least 0.5 of a grade Value Added at both IGCSE and A Level. Our students achieve grades that allow them to gain places at top UK universities such as; Cambridge, LSE, Imperial, Durham and UCL and universities abroard such as the University of Chicago, Georgetown, Princeton, Bocconi in Milan and the IE Business School Madrid.

At Wetherby Senior School we seek to employ highly professional teachers with the ability and commitment to enhance the life of the School and to work effectively and collaboratively with all members of the School community to further establish and develop the School. Our emphasis on educating the whole boy means that all members of staff are expected to contribute to the pastoral care of a group of students as a Form Tutor as well as contributing to the School’s co-curricular activities.

Wetherby Senior School are looking to appoint a Headd of Academic PE to start September 2026. There are currently five full-time members of the PE/Games department, supported by external coaches and other members of the teaching body to allow a broad programme of physical activity. Sport is an important part of the boys’ development and wellbeing and is a compulsory activity for all boys at Wetherby Senior School.

Wetherby Senior School has a variety of onsite facilities, including a strength gym, fitness and boxing studios, while next year we will have use of the facilities at Wood Lane, Wetherby Pembridge Sports Ground. Our major Winter sports are Football and Rugby, with Cricket, Tennis and Athletics in the Summer term. In Physical Education, a range of subjects are covered across Key Stages 3 and 4. These include Youth Athletic Development, Yoga & Wellbeing, Invasion Games, Striking and Fielding, Table Tennis. In addition to timetable Games and PE lessons, the department runs a variety of Co-Curricular sporting clubs in all our available sports, as well as Basketball.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead and manage the Academic PE curriculum, including schemes of work, assessment, academic standards and enrichment
Keep curriculum content current by integrating external subject developments and promoting academic enquiry
Organise and lead educational trips to enhance pupils’ learning experiences
Manage and support departmental staff through induction, observation, feedback and professional development
Ensure consistent use of rewards, sanctions and effective behaviour management across the department
Monitor the quality of teaching, pupil tracking, written reports and scrutiny of pupil work
Support staff in meeting the needs of pupils with learning, medical, social or other difficulties
Oversee pupil progress, option choices and university applications, and develop links with university PE departments
Teach practical PE and Games across all Key Stages, with a preferred specialism in Football, Rugby or Cricket
Promote enthusiasm for sport and contribute to high-quality teaching resources and programmes of study
Manage departmental administration, including planning, inspection readiness, meetings and annual reporting
Contribute to fixtures, tours, enrichment activities and the wider PE and co-curricular programme

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

The ability to teach PE to A Level.
Have outstanding subject knowledge, academic qualifications and to be able to communicate their enthusiasm.
Be able to deliver dynamic and effective lessons to the full ability range of pupils at the School.
Highly effective communication skills for interacting with all members of the School community.
A genuine commitment to pastoral care and the welfare and safeguarding of pupils.
Interests and abilities that can enhance the School’s co-curricular programme.
Excellent inter-personal skills.
Excellent administrative, organisational, and IT skills.
