ROLE SUMMARY:

The post holder will be a part-time Maternity cover member of staff at Wetherby Preparatory School, working 4 days a week assisting with general support for pupils, teachers, and the school. The below serves as a guide but is not exhaustive; all professional staff are expected to undertake other duties and projects as may be reasonably required by the Head in accordance with the grade of the post.

The Assistant Head of Senior Schools will be a member of the Senior Management Team at Wetherby Preparatory School. The person will report to and be responsible to the Head.

Wetherby Preparatory School are looking to appoint a Head Admissions and Senior School from November 2024!

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To conduct all parent meetings regarding future school applications and choices / preparation for specific future schools’ assessments with the Head where appropriate
  • To keep the ever-changing exit list for Years 6, 7 and 8 up to date
  • To work alongside the Head to promote boys from waiting lists
  • To write the Senior School references for all boys leaving at 11+ and 13+ (iCAS)
  • To liaise with the Learning Enrichment department to provide information about access arrangements and SEN needs for the Senior Schools’ References
  • To oversee the future schools interview preparation programme (alongside Oppidan)
  • To oversee academic scholarship class selection, application process and preparation (alongside DH Academic)
  • To Oversee identification of co-curricular scholars and scholarship applications
  • To organise the Guide to Senior Schools Evening and implementing Future Schools Fair
  • To Visit senior schools to continue to build our network and further develop our understanding of the ethos and character of the schools which we recommend to our boys and parents

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

Qualifications  

Essential:    

  • Honours degree in a relevant subject  
  • Teaching qualification together with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)  

 

Experience 

Essential:    

  • Experience of leadership at either a middle or senior level within a prep or primary setting  
  • Experience of mentoring or supporting colleagues  
  • Experience of observing and evaluating the quality of assessment, learning and teaching 

 

Skills 

Essential:  

  • Sophisticated abilities in gathering, understanding, analysing and making excellent use of data in relation to the science of learning (cognitive science) 
  • Ability to use and analyse standardised and summative data to raise attainment and drive progress for all learners 
  • A highly effective oral communicator, both one-to-one and to large audiences  
  • Strong organisational and management skills 
  • An ability to contribute both strategically as well as tactically in a school setting  
  • An excellent classroom practitioner able to lead by example
