ROLE SUMMARY:

Pembridge Hall is an independent girls’ preparatory school (ages 4 – 11) of 463 girls set in a tranquil residential square in Notting Hill. Pembridge prepares its pupils for many of the top day and boarding senior schools in the country and therefore works at a level significantly above National Curriculum expectations.

Pembridge Hall are now looking for an Assistant Head to join them from September 2026. The Assistant Head Academic (Curriculum and Future Schools) works closely with the Assistant Head (Assessment and Operations) and other colleagues to develop and deliver a clear strategy that ensures Pembridge Hall provides an outstanding education for girls across all aspects of school life. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and coordinate the whole-school curriculum, ensuring coherence, academic rigour, relevance, and effective use of assessment data.
  • Oversee the quality of teaching and learning, including monitoring through lesson observations, learning walks, and work scrutiny, while promoting innovation and effective use of educational technology.
  • Ensure inclusive academic challenge for all pupils, including those with SEND and EAL, and support staff development through research-informed practice and CPD.
  • Manage Senior School preparation strategy, maintaining expertise in admissions requirements, exam formats, access arrangements, and scholarship pathways.
  • Oversee Senior School applications, references, admissions liaison, data analysis, and reporting to governors, while advising parents throughout the process.
  • Take responsibility for academic organisation, including timetable creation, curriculum planning, subject review, policy development, and major academic events.
  • Collaborate with subject leaders and the EdTech team to quality assure programmes, embed emerging technologies, and implement strategic initiatives.
  • Maintain strong relationships with parents, governors, senior schools, and external educational bodies, providing clear communication, workshops, and strategic updates.
  • There is a teaching requirement to this role alongside your assistant head responsibilities 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Teaching qualification together with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience of leadership at either a middle or senior level within a Prep or Primary School setting
  • Experience of mentoring and supporting colleagues
  • Experience of observing and evaluating the quality of assessment, learning and teaching
  • An ability to contribute both strategically as well as tactically in a school setting
  • An excellent classroom practitioner able to lead by example
  • A detailed knowledge of the broad range of formative and summative assessment models appropriate to a primary school setting.
  • Knowledge of the broad curriculum of an Independent Prep School in London
  • Credibility in post in the eyes of staff and parents
  • Enthusiasm and a positive outlook
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team
