ROLE SUMMARY:
Wetherby Preparatory School is an independent boys’ preparatory school (ages 7 – 13) of 350 boys set in the dynamic area of Marylebone in London. Wetherby prepares its pupils for many of the top day and boarding senior schools in the country and therefore works at a level significantly above National Curriculum expectations.
Wetherby Prep are now looking for a 1-1 Dyslexia Specialist Teaching Assistant to join them from November 2025. We are looking for a kind, patient, and encouraging Teaching Assistant to provide one-to-one support for a bright young boy with dyslexia. The role involves helping him build confidence and develop his literacy and learning skills through structured, supportive, and engaging activities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide tailored one-to-one academic support in reading, spelling, and writing
- Reinforce learning from school using multi-sensory and dyslexia-friendly methods including Toe-by-Toe and other dyslexia package
- Help with homework, organisation, and study skills
- Teach the child how to use assistive technology such as reading pens, immersive readers and voice-to-text software
- Encourage positive learning habits and build the child’s self-esteem
- Liaise regularly with parents (and school staff if applicable) to track progress
- Create a calm, positive, and motivating learning environmen

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
Essential:
- Experience working with children, ideally in an educational or tutoring role
- Understanding of dyslexia and strategies to support dyslexic learners
Desirable:
- Qualifications in education, special needs support, or literacy intervention (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, SEN training, or a background in education
- Knowledge of phonics-based or multi-sensory learning programs (e.g., Alpha to Omega, Toe-by-Toe, Beat Dyslexia or similar

- Empathetic and encouraging with a genuine love of working with children
- Reliable, organised, and consistent.
