To join our team, in August 2025, we are looking for a well-qualified and talented teacher of Portuguese, either as a mother tongue teacher or teaching Portuguese as a Second Language (PSL).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Inspire and Engage: Build trust and confidence with students, motivating them to actively engage in learning Portuguese, whether as their mother tongue or second language.
- Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver lessons aligned with the GCSE, A-Level, or IBDP curricula, ensuring students grasp key language concepts and develop strong communication skills.
- Personalized Learning: Differentiate instruction to meet individual student needs, supporting both native speakers and second language learners in their development.
- Classroom Management: Establish a positive, disciplined, and safe learning environment, fostering mutual respect and promoting effective learning.
- Technology Integration: Use modern technology to create engaging learning opportunities, including interactive tools and online resources to enhance language acquisition.
- Assessment and Feedback: Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback to advance learning and ensure students meet academic targets.
- Pastoral Care: Promote student well-being by addressing personal and academic needs, collaborating with parents, colleagues, and support staff when necessary.
- School Development: Contribute to school improvement plans by aligning teaching strategies with the broader goals of the school and promoting key learning priorities.
- Extracurricular Involvement: Engage students in extracurricular activities, including language clubs, cultural exchanges, or trips, to enrich their language and cultural understanding.
- Continuous Professional Development: Participate in professional development activities to stay current with language teaching trends and continually enhance instructional practices.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- A relevant degree in Portuguese Language, Education, or a related field, with a teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).
- Experience teaching Portuguese as a mother tongue or as a Second Language (PSL) at the secondary level, with knowledge of GCSE, A-Level, or IBDP curricula.
- Proven ability to inspire and engage students, fostering a positive and stimulating learning environment.
- Strong classroom management skills, maintaining high standards of behaviour and creating a safe, productive learning atmosphere.
- Proficiency in using modern technology to enhance teaching and learning, including online resources and interactive tools.
- Strong communication skills, effectively collaborating with colleagues, students, and parents to support student progress and well-being.
- A commitment to continuous professional development, staying updated with best practices in language teaching and curriculum developments.
- A proactive approach to pastoral care, addressing both academic and personal challenges to promote student well-being.
- Fluency in Portuguese with the ability to teach students of varying linguistic abilities, from native speakers to second-language learners.
- A collaborative mindset, contributing to school improvement plans, extra-curricular activities, and the broader school community.
