ROLE SUMMARY:
At PaRK International School Alfragide, we are looking for an inspiring and highly qualified Teacher of History to join our Senior School team. You will be responsible for delivering a world-class History curriculum within the IB Diploma Programme (DP) and the Middle Years Programme (MYP) frameworks. Our mission is to guide students to be autonomous, global citizens who think critically about the world’s past to shape its future.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Curriculum Delivery: Plan and teach engaging, inquiry-based History lessons that meet the requirements of the IB DP (Standard and Higher Level) and MYP.
- IB Core Support: Act as a supervisor for the Extended Essay (EE) and support the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and CAS components as required.
- Assessment & Feedback: Prepare students for external examinations using IB assessment criteria, providing constructive feedback to develop high-level historical analysis and argumentation skills.
- Research & Investigation: Lead students through the Internal Assessment (IA) process, ensuring rigorous historical research and academic honesty.
- Global Mindedness: Foster an international perspective by exploring diverse historical periods, regions, and viewpoints, aligned with the IB philosophy.
- Technology Integration: Utilize state-of-the-art educational technology to create interactive and innovative learning experiences.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the IB Coordinator and the Humanities Department to ensure a cohesive and high-quality educational journey for all students.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- Qualifications: A University Degree in History or a related field, plus a recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or Portuguese Habilitação Própria).
- Experience: Proven experience teaching History in an international setting, with specific expertise in the IB Diploma Programme.
- Pedagogy: Deep understanding of inquiry-based learning and the IB "Approaches to Learning" (ATL) skills.
- Communication: Fluency in English is essential; a working knowledge of Portuguese is a significant advantage in our bilingual community.
- Mindset: A curious, resilient, and collaborative professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment.
- Legal: Valid work permit for Portugal or EU/EFTA citizenship is generally required due to local regulations.
