ROLE SUMMARY:

PaRK International School is a leading institution in Portugal and a member of the global Inspired Education group. The Alfragide Campus is the school’s largest site, serving approximately 1,300 students across a comprehensive age range from Early Learning (age 1) to Grade 12 (age 18). The school is renowned for its multilingual and innovative environment, transitioning from a bilingual Portuguese-English foundation in the Junior years to international pathways including Cambridge IGCSE and the IB Diploma Programme in the Senior years.

The School Librarian at Alfragide oversees the library/learning resource center to support students from Early Learning to Grade 12. The goal is to inspire a love of reading, provide technical research support for the curriculum, and maintain a welcoming, high-tech learning environment consistent with the school's focus on innovation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Curriculum Integration: Collaborate with teachers to provide relevant print and digital resources for specific subjects and research projects.
  • Student Instruction: Deliver sessions on information literacy, teaching students how to evaluate sources and use digital databases effectively.
  • Collection Development: Select and acquire age-appropriate English and Portuguese materials that reflect the school’s bilingual and international values.
  • Reading Promotion: Organize creative activities like "Reading Circles," book fairs, author visits, and seasonal displays to engage students.
  • Library Management: Manage the circulation (check-in/out) process using library software and keep the physical space organized and inviting.
  • Digital Leadership: Manage access to e-books and online learning platforms, providing basic tech support to students and staff.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Education: A degree in Library Science or Information Management (MLIS preferred).
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English is essential given the international environment; Portuguese is highly advantageous.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a school or educational setting is typically required.
  • Soft Skills: A friendly, patient, and collaborative personality suited for a "one big family" community.

SAFEGUARDING STATEMENT:

Inspired Education Group is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff, volunteers and other third parties to share this commitment. Safer recruitment practices and pre-employment background checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed.
