The Humanities Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering dynamic, inquiry-based lessons within the Individuals and Societies department. The primary focus is to empower students to think critically about global dynamics, past and present, while preparing them to become autonomous, globally-minded citizens.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver high-quality lessons aligned with IB MYP and DP curriculum frameworks.
- Design inquiry-based plans that foster critical thinking and international-mindedness.
- Integrate educational technology seamlessly into daily classroom learning and research.
- Differentiate teaching methods to support diverse student needs and EAL learners.
- Evaluate student work rigorously using standard IB criteria and rubrics.
- Supervise core components including Internal Assessments (IAs) and Extended Essays.
- Provide pastoral care as a Homeroom Teacher to support student well-being.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant Humanities field (History, Geography, Global Studies) along with an internationally recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or national equivalent).
- Experience: Proven experience teaching the IB MYP and/or IB DP framework is highly valued.
- Languages: Full professional proficiency or near-native fluency in English (as it is the primary language of instruction in the Senior School). Knowledge of Portuguese is an advantage.
- Mindset: Student-centered approach, strong collaborative skills for working in multicultural teams, and a commitment to continuous professional growth.
