ROLE SUMMARY:

We are seeking an outstanding leader to provide strategic direction and leadership for the English Department at PaRK Alfragide. The post-holder will take a lead role in monitoring and evaluating standards, acting as a leading professional who promotes effective teaching, learning, and excellent behaviour across the faculty. Working in partnership with all staff, you will ensure continuous school improvement, network with other post-holders across the Inspired group, and model the values and vision of PaRK.

OVERSIGHT

  • Key Stage 3 English, ESL & ELD
  • Key Stage 4 English & ESL (IGCSE)
  • International Baccalaureate (IBDP) English A & English B
  • A Level English Literature

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Provide a clear vision, intent, and curriculum maps for the English Department, leading collaborative planning and Schemes of Work.
  • Raise academic attainment in line with school expectations and annual department improvement plans.
  • Ensure pupil assessment (Cycle Tests, in-class metrics, interdisciplinary projects) is fit for purpose, standardized, and monitored.
  • Design and execute timely intervention strategies for underachievers, communicating them clearly to SLT, HOYs, teachers, and parents.
  • Ensure students are entered for the appropriate public examinations at the correct stages.
  • Embed whole-school Teaching & Learning practices to ensure pupils make better-than-expected progress.
  • Monitor curriculum implementation and manage the performance, support, and development of teachers within the faculty.
  • Provide regular progress updates to Senior Leadership (SSLT) during weekly Link meetings.
  • Devise an innovative enrichment programme to promote a love of learning through English extracurriculars.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

 

  • University degree in English (or related field) alongside a recognized teaching qualification.
  • Proven experience successfully leading or managing an English department.
  • Essential experience teaching IGCSE English.
  • Ability to teach advanced curricula, specifically IBDP English A and/or A-Level English Literature.
  • Strong networker capable of collaborating with post-holders across the global Inspired group.
  • Full commitment to continuous professional development (CPD) and updating faculty curriculum knowledge.
  • Compliance with school policies, health and safety regulations, and safeguarding frameworks.
