ROLE SUMMARY:

The Head of English at PaRK International School Alfragide is a visionary leader responsible for the strategic direction, quality of teaching, and academic outcomes of the English Department. Managing a large team of specialists, the Head of English ensures a seamless curriculum transition for students aged 1 to 18. You will lead the delivery of the Cambridge International Curriculum (KS3 and IGCSE) and the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP), fostering a culture where English is not just a subject, but a tool for global leadership and critical thinking.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Curriculum Strategic Oversight: Design and refine a high-performance English curriculum that aligns the bilingual Portuguese-English Junior School with the international Senior School pathways.
Academic Excellence & Results: Take accountability for external examination results (IGCSE and IBDP), using data-driven tracking to implement interventions and ensure students consistently exceed global averages.
Team Leadership: Mentor, observe, and provide professional development for a diverse team of English teachers, fostering an environment of "continuous improvement" as per Inspired Education standards.
Support for EAL (English as an Additional Language): Oversee specialized pathways for students from non-English speaking backgrounds, ensuring they achieve the fluency required for the IB Bilingual Diploma.
Literacy & Oracy Champion: Lead school-wide initiatives—such as debate clubs, creative writing competitions, and collaborative projects with the Alfragide Library—to promote a sophisticated command of the language across all grades.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

Experience: Proven track record in a leadership role (Head of Department or Coordinator) within an international school setting.
Curriculum Expertise: Deep knowledge of Cambridge IGCSE and the IB Diploma Programme is essential.
Academic Background: A Master’s degree in English Literature, Linguistics, or Education is highly preferred, alongside a recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE/QTS).
Mindset: A "hard-working, curious, and resilient" professional who thrives in a fast-paced, technologically advanced environment.
