The Northfields campus in Labourdonnais is situated on owned freehold property and incorporates numerous subject classrooms, dedicated science labs, computer suites, art studios, a design and Special Education Needs (SEN) and English as an Additional Language (EAL) support rooms.  Northfields offers internationally recognised educational programmes and qualifications for Cambridge, and International Baccalaureate. The curriculum progression at our school begins with the Montessori Pre-Nursery, fostering early development through hands-on, child-centred learning. Students then transition into the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) at NIPS, where they build a strong foundation in inquiry-based learning. From Primary School, students advance to Secondary School (Years 7–11), where they follow a rigorous curriculum that culminates in the Cambridge IGCSE examinations at the end of Year 11. In Sixth Form, students undertake the two-year IB Diploma Programme (DP), preparing them for global higher education opportunities and lifelong success.

Apart from being an authorised IB World School, the quality of Northfields is further bolstered through the school’s accreditation with the Council of International Schools (CIS) and memberships with the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA) and the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA). Northfields is registered and licensed in Mauritius with the Ministry of Gender Equality & Welfare for our Pre-Nursery, with the Early Childhood Care and Education Authority (ECCEA) and the Ministry of Education and Human Resources for the Primary School and the Private Secondary Education Authority (PSEA) for our Secondary School.

We are  looking for a qualified and caring School Nurse to join our team. This role is essential for supporting students' health, both physically and emotionally, and creating a safe school environment. The School Nurse will provide first aid, manage health records, and assist students with ongoing medical needs. The ideal candidate will work closely with staff, parents, and healthcare professionals to ensure proper care and health education, as well as to implement school health policies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain professional standards in line with the NMC (UK) Code of Conduct

  • Ensure confidentiality and accurate upkeep of student health records on the school’s MIS system.

  • Deliver first aid and emergency care to students and staff; oversee daily operations and inventory of the medical centre.

  • Plan and coordinate immunisation programmes with local health authorities.

  • Create and manage Individual Health Care Plans for students with ongoing or complex needs, encouraging self-care where appropriate.

  • Support risk assessments for school trips and ensure timely reporting of accidents and incidents in line with OSHA 2005.

  • Provide age-appropriate sexual health advice and contribute to well-being education via PSHE, PreCAS, and First Aid.

  • Train staff to handle medical emergencies, including asthma, diabetes, anaphylaxis, and seizures.

  • Collaborate with school leadership to review and implement health policies.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

The ideal candidate for the School Nurse position at Northfields International School will possess:

  • A Diploma or Degree in Nursing and registration as a nurse with the Mauritius Nursing Council.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience as a Nurse, with evidence of working with school-age children and providing pastoral care.
  • Knowledge of the Public Health role for school-aged children and their families.
