ROLE SUMMARY:

Northfields International School is a premier independent co-educational day school in Mauritius that provides an English-medium education for over 1200 boys and girls aged between 18 months and 18 years. Our student population is comprised of more than 45 nationalities and the school seeks to inspire our diverse learning community to make a positive impact as active global citizens.

In addition to being an authorised IB World School, Northfields is an accredited member of the Council of International Schools (CIS) and holds memberships with the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA) and the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA).

We have an exciting opportunity for a primary school teacher (class teacher) to join the team on a temporary basis. The Homeroom Teacher should have a genuine commitment to child-initiated and active learning, putting children first and ensuring that they are challenged as individuals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and deliver lessons with clear objectives and assessments.
  • Set challenging tasks to maintain interest and build on prior attainment.
  • Cater to individual student needs and maintain lesson structure, pace, and motivation.
  • Use diverse teaching methods, including questioning, resource selection, and study skill development.
  • Ensure effective use of time, assessments, and school policies on discipline, behaviour, and homework.
  • Contribute to curriculum development with clear targets and success criteria.
  • Act as class tutor, supporting the progress and well-being of students.
  • Register attendance, encourage participation, and address individual student concerns.
  • Prepare reports and action plans, and communicate with staff about student needs.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

Educational Background:

  • University degree (Bachelor’s degree or higher) in subject area
  • Bachelor in Education (Primary)

Knowledge:

  • IB Primary Years Programme and international experience
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of subject area(s)
  • Variety of teaching and assessment strategies
  • Appropriate disciplinary techniques
