ROLE SUMMARY:
Northfields International School is a premier independent co-educational day school in Mauritius that provides an English-medium education for over 1200 boys and girls aged between 18 months and 18 years. The Northfields campus in Labourdonnais is situated on owned freehold property and incorporates numerous subject classrooms, dedicated science labs, computer suites, art studios, a design and Special Education Needs (SEN) and English as an Additional Language (EAL) support rooms. Northfields offers internationally recognised educational programmes and qualifications for Cambridge, and International Baccalaureate. The curriculum progression at our school begins with the Pre-Nursery, fostering early development through hands-on, child-centred learning. Students then transition into the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) at NIPS, where they build a strong foundation in inquiry-based learning. From Primary School, students advance to Secondary School (Years 7–11), where they follow a rigorous curriculum that culminates in the Cambridge IGCSE examinations at the end of Year 11. In Sixth Form, students undertake the two-year IB Diploma Programme (DP), preparing them for global higher education opportunities and lifelong success.
Apart from being an authorised IB World School, the quality of Northfields is further bolstered through the school’s accreditation with the Council of International Schools (CIS) and memberships with the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA) and the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA). We are looking to recruit a compassionate and experienced Childcare Practitioner to support children aged 18 months to 3 years within our early years setting. The ideal candidate will be nurturing, patient, and passionate about early childhood development, with a strong commitment to providing a safe and stimulating learning environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons that foster developmental progress and curiosity.
- Create and maintain a clean, organised, and stimulating classroom aligned with the School principles.
- Design and implement a structured schedule of activities based on children's needs, interests, and thematic learning.
- Balance cognitive and social development through both structured lessons and exploratory play.
- Provide basic caregiving routines to support toddlers’ physical and emotional well-being.
- Maintain individual developmental portfolios, including milestone tracking, work samples, and observation notes.
- Ensure a safe and nurturing environment, actively monitoring children's welfare at all times.
- Prepare and present three progress reports to parents annually: developmental, social-emotional, and academic.
- Log incidents and accidents promptly, ensuring they are reported and acknowledged by parents
- Welcome children and families daily, fostering a positive and reassuring start and end to the school day.
- Communicate the daily routine and special activities clearly and consistently.
- Assist new families in settling into the school community through a supportive induction process.
- Maintain respectful and proactive communication with parents, colleagues, and leadership.
- Encourage social interaction, emotional regulation, and independence among toddlers.
- Participate in aftercare on a rotating basis and support school-organised holiday camps in October, December, and April (paid accordingly).
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
Educational Background:
- School Certificate
- Diploma in early Childhood Education
Knowledge & Experience:

Skilled in systematic observation and interpretation of young children's developmental needs.

Able to adapt and modify the classroom environment based on ongoing observations to meet individual interests and learning styles.

Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of teaching strategies and the classroom setup.

Monitor and assess each child’s individual progress, tailoring support accordingly.

Competent in identifying patterns of growth and behaviour to inform appropriate referrals and recommendations to parents when necessary
