ROLE SUMMARY:

 

Reddam House Umhlanga is seeking to appoint a full-time Early Childhood Development Teacher to join the Early Learning School from 1 January 2026. The successful candidate will adopt a holistic approach to the learners in their care, fostering their wellbeing, development, and progress. They will create an engaging and nurturing learning environment that inspires curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning in young children.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging and developmentally appropriate lessons.
  • Teach within a Reggio-inspired environment and apply Reggio principles where appropriate.
  • Establish a nurturing, supportive and stimulating classroom environment.
  • Demonstrate professionalism with regard to punctuality, behaviour and work standards.
  • Evaluate, reflect on and refine teaching practice on an ongoing basis.
  • Participate in continuous personal and school-wide professional development.
  • Teach extra lessons/extra-murals on two afternoons per week when required.
  • Produce high-quality learning resources for students.
  • Respond to parent emails and phone messages within 24 hours.
  • Demonstrate loyalty to all facets of Reddam House.
  • Attend special school occasions at the discretion of the relevant Head.
  • Set and mark assessments and other forms of student evaluation.
  • Write report comments.
  • Undertake any other reasonable tasks assigned by the School Head or line manager.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

 

  • A university degree in an appropriate field.
  • Certified Teaching Status / SACE registration.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ teaching experience.
  • Confidence using ICT in teaching.
  • Experience with IEB, CAPS or Reggio programmes.
  • Experience in a high-performing international school (desirable).
  • Strong preparation, planning, and assessment skills.
  • Ability to set clear expectations and support effective learning.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A genuine passion for early childhood development and student welfare.
  • A positive attitude, strong organisational skills, and a continuous improvement mindset.
