OUR SCHOOL:
Reddam House Helderfontein is a premier, private school, situated in the picturesque Helderfontein Estate Valley, surrounded by the leafy suburbs of Dainfern, Fourways, Lonehill and Broadacres. The Helderfontein Campus provides a beautiful, tranquil, secure, nurturing, enabling, learning-and-exploring environment. ROLE SUMMARY:
The Head of Boarding is the heart of our school’s boarding community. This role is all about providing a safe, supportive, and vibrant home away from home for our boarders. You'll oversee the day-to-day management of the boarding house, making sure students’ well-being, academic progress, and personal growth are always top priorities. As the leader of the boarding team, you’ll also work closely with other departments to ensure that everything from academics to activities flows seamlessly.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and inspire a team of dedicated boarding staff, ensuring every student receives the care and attention they deserve.
- Prioritise staff well-being by supporting, mentoring, and creating a positive work environment where your team can thrive.
- Plan and create the staff duty roster, keeping things balanced and fair, while ensuring the boarding house is always fully supported.
- Support, mentor, and help develop your team, providing regular feedback and guidance to keep improving the care provided.
- Be the go-to person for all boarding-related matters from helping with student issues to keeping communication open with parents and staff.
- Train and manage the performance of your team, always with a focus on providing top-notch care.
- Promote positive behaviour, encouraging boarders to respect each other and the space they share.
- Plan fun and meaningful activities that contribute to the students’ growth, school spirit, and sense of belonging.
- Manage exeat requests from parents ensuring everything is in order for students to leave the school safely, in line with school policy.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
- Relevant degree.
- At least 5 years’ experience in a leadership role, ideally in a boarding environment or similar setting.
- Strong understanding of child development and a passion for student welfare.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and people skills and must be able to juggle many responsibilities and build strong relationships.
- Ability to handle and resolve conflict with patience and professionalism.
- Attention to detail, with the ability to stay calm under pressure.
- Proactive and empathetic problem solver.
- Knowledge of legal and safeguarding regulations to ensure student safety.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to get trained).
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and during school holidays as required.
- Experience with international boarding and multicultural student communities.
- Experience organising student activities and events.
- Comfortable with technology for communication and administration.
- Knowledge of boarding school policies and best practices.
