ROLE SUMMARY:

St. Peter’s International School, located in Palmela near Lisbon, serves around 1,500 students from 4 months to 18 years on a modern 37,000 m² campus. The school offers a bilingual curriculum (Portuguese/English), Cambridge programmes, and the International Baccalaureate, alongside boarding options for older students. We are seeking a well-qualified and talented IB Portuguese Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will demonstrate deep subject knowledge and a strong understanding of the IB philosophy, with the ability to deliver engaging, inquiry-based lessons that promote critical thinking, intercultural understanding, and academic excellence.

You will be committed to designing meaningful learning experiences aligned with the IB principles, fostering student agency, and supporting all learners in achieving their highest potential. Training and experience in teaching MYP and/or DP Portuguese will be highly valued.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver high-quality, inquiry-based Portuguese lessons that foster critical thinking, international-mindedness, and student agency, ensuring all learners are inspired, challenged, and supported.
  • Plan, prepare, and implement units of inquiry aligned with IB philosophy, including MYP/DP frameworks, assessment criteria, and Approaches to Teaching and Learning (ATL) skills.
  • Assess, monitor, and document student progress using IB assessment practices, providing timely, constructive feedback that promotes reflection and continuous improvement.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and concept-driven learning environment that supports well-being, academic excellence, and respect for cultural and linguistic diversity.
  • Contribute to the pastoral and holistic development of students, supporting their personal, social, and emotional growth in line with IB learner profile attributes.
  • Use digital tools and learning technologies effectively to enhance inquiry, collaboration, and communication within the classroom.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and the IB coordination team to ensure consistency, alignment, and the highest standards of learning and teaching.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, reflecting on practice, embracing innovation, and contributing to the continuous enhancement of the IB programme.
  • Engage in professional development, embracing innovation and continuously improving teaching practice.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Be well-qualified, enthusiastic, and deeply committed to the principles and values of the International Baccalaureate.
  • Be an excellent inquiry-driven classroom practitioner, capable of ensuring meaningful progress for all students through differentiated, concept-based teaching.
  • Have a clear vision of outstanding IB teaching and learning, including the promotion of international-mindedness, student agency, and the development of ATL skills.
  • Demonstrate strong organisational and planning skills, ensuring high-quality unit design aligned with MYP/DP frameworks.
  • Maintain a positive, open-minded attitude, embracing reflection, collaboration, and ongoing professional growth within an innovative and evolving IB environment.
