ROLE SUMMARY:

King’s College School, Soto de Viñuelas (Madrid), is seeking to appoint a caring and committed Houseparent to join our boarding team. This is a residential role offering a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of students in our vibrant boarding community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide a high standard of pastoral care for boarders, acting in loco parentis and ensuring their well-being, health, safety, and discipline.

  • Lead and manage the daily routines and organisation of the House during duty shifts.

  • Create a welcoming, supportive, and respectful environment for all boarders, fostering personal growth and academic success.

  • Communicate regularly with parents, staff, and the Head of Boarding to support each student’s development.

  • Implement and uphold boarding policies, safeguarding standards, and school values.

  • Support and mentor a group of boarders academically, meeting regularly to track progress.

  • Contribute to the weekend programme of activities and enrichment opportunities.

  • Attend boarding team meetings, INSET sessions, and ongoing training to ensure continuous improvement and safeguarding awareness.

  • Promote good behaviour and reinforce the school’s Code of Conduct through encouragement, fair discipline, and consistency.

  • Monitor student records and logs, maintaining appropriate levels of confidentiality and reporting any concerns.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Experience working with young people in a pastoral or residential setting (boarding experience desirable).

  • A genuine commitment to the care and development of young people.

  • Excellent communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organisational abilities, including the flexibility to manage unpredictable situations calmly and effectively.

  • A proactive, hands-on attitude with the ability to work collaboratively in a close-knit team.

  • Awareness and understanding of safeguarding, child protection, and health and safety practices in educational settings.

  • Willingness to reside on-site and fully engage in the life of the boarding house, including evening and weekend duties.
