ROLE SUMMARY:

The International School of Ticino are seeking a committed and enthusiastic History Teacher to join one of its established international secondary schools from August 2026.

 

The successful candidate will deliver high-quality History teaching primarily within the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), with the opportunity to contribute to the IB Diploma Programme (DP) where appropriate. This role suits a reflective, student-centred practitioner who is passionate about humanities education within an international, inquiry-led IB environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach History across the IB MYP and, where appropriate, the IB DP
  • Plan and deliver engaging, inquiry-based lessons aligned with IB frameworks and assessment criteria
  • Prepare students effectively for internal and external IB assessments
  • Differentiate teaching to meet a range of abilities, including multilingual learners
  • Use assessment data to monitor progress, provide meaningful feedback, and inform planning
  • Collaborate with Humanities colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning and curriculum development
  • Contribute positively to the wider life of the school, including meetings, events, and enrichment activities
  • Promote and model the IB Learner Profile and Inspired Education values
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour, engagement, and academic standards

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

Essential

  • Legal right to live and work in Switzerland or an EU passport
  • Degree in History or a closely related subject and a recognised teaching qualification
  • Experience teaching History at secondary level
  • Strong subject knowledge and confidence delivering concept-driven humanities curricula
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills
  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to student-centred learning

 

Preferred

  • Experience teaching within the IB MYP and/or DP
  • Experience in an international or multilingual school environment
  • Ability to teach across multiple year groups and proficiency levels
  • Familiarity with inquiry-based, concept-driven and skills-focused pedagogy
  • Willingness to contribute to wider Humanities initiatives or future coordination opportunities
