ROLE SUMMARY:

The Geneva English School (GES) is a high-quality, boutique international school in Switzerland, operating across two campuses (Genthod for Primary and Versoix for Secondary) with a total of approximately 330 students from over 60 nationalities.

The school follows the English National Curriculum, culminating in IGCSEs and A Levels, and maintains a "small school" feel with typical class sizes of 12, focusing on a holistic education where music is central to daily life.

The Head of Primary at Geneva English School is responsible for delivering high-quality education that inspires a diverse, international student body. With a holistic approach deeply embedded in the school culture—from 'House' competitions to whole-school assemblies—you will nurture students' academic, social, and emotional development. This role involves leading the Primary school (ages 3–11), ensuring a vibrant and inclusive learning environment for all.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Curriculum Leadership: Oversee the planning and delivery of a vibrant curriculum based on the English National Curriculum, ensuring it is innovative and adapted for an international Primary context.
  • Academic Excellence & Assessment: Monitor student progress across all Primary key stages (EYFS, KS1 & KS2), ensuring high academic standards and supporting teachers in delivering differentiated learning.
  • School Life & Events: Lead and coordinate primary assemblies, "House" activities, and school events that celebrate student achievements and foster a strong GES community spirit.
  • Pastoral Care: Ensure the wellbeing and social-emotional development of all primary students, maintaining a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment.
  • Team Management & Collaboration: Lead and mentor the Primary teaching team and support staff, working closely with the Senior Leadership Team to align the primary school’s goals with the overall GES vision.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent) and a relevant academic degree in Education or a related field;
  • Proven experience in a leadership or middle-management role within a Primary setting;
  • Deep knowledge of the English National Curriculum and experience across Early Years (EYFS), KS1, and KS2;
  • A strong track record of driving academic excellence and supporting holistic student development;
  • Experience in pastoral care and a passion for fostering a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills, with the ability to inspire both staff and students;
  • A clear and unwavering commitment to safeguarding and student welfare;
  • Fluency in English is the primary requirement; however, a working knowledge of French is a significant advantage given the school’s immersive French setting in Switzerland;
  • Due to Swiss regulations, candidates typically need to be Swiss citizens, EU/EFTA passport holders, or hold a valid Swiss work permit.
