ROLE SUMMARY:
Northfields International School is a premier independent co-educational day school in Mauritius that provides an English-medium education for over 1200 boys and girls aged between 18 months and 18 years. Northfields is well known for its traditional values, family atmosphere, and sustained emphasis on the holistic development of each student. The Northfields campus in Labourdonnais is situated on owned freehold property and incorporates numerous subject classrooms, dedicated science labs, computer suites, art studios, a design and Special Education Needs (SEN) and English as an Additional Language (EAL) support room. Northfields offers internationally recognised educational programmes and qualifications for Cambridge and the International Baccalaureate. The curriculum progression in the school begins with Regio Emelia Pre-Nursery, followed by the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) at NIPS. Students from the Primary School may progress to Secondary School at NIHS, where they follow the 5-year Cambridge curriculum in Years 7-11, culminating with the Cambridge IGCSE examination at the end of Year 11. Students in Sixth Form then follow the 2-year IB Diploma Programme (DP) or Cambridge A level.
Apart from being an authorised IB World School, the quality of Northfields is further bolstered through the school’s accreditation with the Council of International Schools (CIS) and membership with the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA) and the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA). We are looking for an Early Years Teacher to join our team in August 2026. The ideal candidate will be nurturing, patient, and passionate about early childhood development, with a strong commitment to providing a safe and stimulating learning environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons that nurture curiosity, developmental progress, and balanced growth through structured activities and exploratory play.

Maintain a clean, organised, and stimulating classroom aligned with School principles, ensuring a safe, nurturing environment.

Plan and implement activity schedules tailored to children’s needs, interests, and thematic learning.

Provide caregiving routines supporting toddlers’ physical and emotional well-being, while monitoring their welfare.

Maintain developmental portfolios, tracking milestones, observations, and work samples.

Log and report incidents or accidents promptly, ensuring parental acknowledgment.

Welcome children and families daily, fostering a positive start and end to the school day.

Support new families through a structured induction process into the school community.

Communicate routines and special activities clearly and consistently to parents and colleagues.

Foster respectful, proactive communication with parents, colleagues, and school leadership.

Encourage toddlers’ independence, emotional regulation, and positive social interaction.

Participate in aftercare on a rotational basis and support school holiday camps.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant subject area or B.Ed.
- Postgraduate Certificate of Education or a certificate of equivalence.
- Experience teaching in an early years setting.
- Prior experience in a premium international school or nursery is highly desirable.
- Experience in using ICT to enhance teaching and learning.
- Ability to set clear expectations and stretch goals.
- A depth of understanding in the relevant subject area.
- Ability to judge learning effectiveness.
- Enthusiasm, creativity, and a growth mindset.
- Genuine care and attention for the highest standards of student welfare.
