All EIS teachers should display motivation, life-long learner attributes, and excellent interpersonal skills as they meet the challenges of educating students from diverse international and host country backgrounds. The classroom environment should be well planned and organized, be stimulating, and engaging, providing high quality instruction and learning, underpinned by the ability to deliver inquiry-based, transdisciplinary units, where applicable, across the three IB programmes.

All teachers need to work collaboratively with others in their section, and across sections, and liaise effectively with the IB Coordinators, in the development implementation and review of the curriculum, assessment and reporting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and deliver high quality EAL lessons with clear learning objectives, using a range of teaching styles and resources appropriate to the subject matter and the students being taught.
  • Plan and deliver language support specific to the needs of the Primary curriculum.
  • Plan EAL support to suit individual students’ needs, including support for their Homeroom and specialist subjects.
  • Regularly assess students’ level of English and develop effective strategies to enable students to access the mainstream curriculum at the earliest appropriate opportunity.
  • Offer relevant guidance to Homeroom teachers in their delivery of lessons to EAL students.
  • Assist in the development of appropriate syllabuses, resources, units of work etc.
  • Contribute positively to the development of the EAL Department.
  • Work with colleagues to ensure that the EAL Department provides teaching that supports the mainstream curriculum.
  • Write student reports for parents/care-givers of EAL students, ensuring that quality and consistency is maintained.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/care-givers of EAL students as appropriate, including attendance at parent-teacher conferences.
  • Undertaking additional duties as required by the Head of Section.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Bachelor of Education, PGCE and certificate in English teaching
  • At least 3-year experience in international schools
  • Experience of the IB’s Primary Years Programme would be highly desired,  
  • Experience in an international school environment is preferred
  • Evidence of continued relevant professional development
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent communicator in both spoken and written English
  • Independent, proactive and collegial by nature
