ROLE SUMMARY:

ISC is seeking to appoint a dedicated, well-qualified, and inspiring Spanish Teacher (maternity cover). The Spanish teacher is responsible for teaching & learning related to MYP and DP Spanish. Pastorally, they may be responsible for a specific group of students however they share the responsibility for the social and emotional development of each student with all staff.

 

About the School: This is a particularly exciting time to join the International School of Como (ISC). Under the leadership of newly appointed Executive Principal Philipa Smithson, the school is embarking on an expansion project set to increase the student body from 400 to approximately 700 in the coming years, bringing additional career advancement opportunities. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching & Learning

  • Maintain high standards of teaching and learning in the classroom
  • Set and share clear expectations with students
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
  • Plan for and assess Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills
  • Ensure effective differentiation to challenge all learners
  • Share learning objectives and encourage student agency
  • Show evidence of short-, medium-, and long-term planning
  • Provide cover work when absent
  • Communicate with parents constructively via approved channels
  • Support and attend field trips as required
  • Participate in regular staff meetings
  • Undertake supervision duties and cover colleagues as needed

 

Assessment & Reporting

  • Use formative and summative assessment to track progress
  • Maintain detailed records using prescribed systems (e.g. ManageBac)
  • Write accurate, informative reports in a professional style
  • Update parents on student progress as outlined by the coordinator

 

Resource Management

  • Use classroom/department resources effectively
  • Help maintain an up-to-date inventory
  • Report safety concerns or required maintenance
  • Assist with ordering and checking new materials

 

Professional Development

  • Actively engage in the Professional Development Programme (PDP)
  • Complete IB workshops and share certification with coordinators
  • Support colleagues through coaching, collaboration, and sharing resources

 

Pastoral Care

  • Promote the Learner Profile attributes
  • Address behaviour fairly and respectfully, following pastoral guidelines
  • Follow Health & Safety procedures to protect students and staff
  • Participate in co-curricular clubs and pastoral activities (e.g. House system)
  • Monitor attendance and behaviour patterns
  • Report safeguarding concerns immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • A good bachelor’s degree from a recognised university
  • Appropriate teaching qualification for subject area, i.e. PGCE or equivalent
  • Relevant experience of teaching Spanish
  • Experience of working with students for whom English is an Additional Language
  • Native or fluent speaker of Spanish
  • Good level of working English
  • IB experience is preferred but not necessary
