ROLE SUMMARY:

The PYP Coordinator, along with the Head of Primary, ensures the quality of the Primary Years Programme in its planning, implementation and assessment of learning outcomes. They are the point of contact at the school for communication with the IBO and, when necessary, will report issues to the Head of Primary to address and maintain high expectations of staff and students. The PYP Coordinator is a dynamic and supportive leader who empowers staff to be high-quality inquiry teachers, curriculum designers and diligent trackers of student progress. The PYP Coordinator will frequently meet with parents on academic and pastoral concerns in consultation with the Head of PYP. In conjunction with the Head of PYP, the PYP Coordinator will oversee the logistics of the day-to-day running of the PYP.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support primary admissions processes, including interviews and assessments.
  • Assist with timetable planning and ensure appropriate student supervision.
  • Mentor and support teachers and learning assistants in planning, assessment, and reflective practice aligned with IB PYP principles.
  • Facilitate collaborative planning and professional learning for staff.
  • Line manage PYP Curriculum Coordinators.
  • Lead the PYP Programme Evaluation process with the Head of Primary and maintain required IB documentation.
  • Develop and promote effective assessment practices, using data to monitor student progress and support programme improvement.
  • Act as liaison between the school and the IB, supporting communication with families and parent engagement around the PYP.
  • Lead the development and review of the Programme of Inquiry and support alignment with the Middle Years Programme.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • A qualified IB educator with significant experience in the IB PYP curriculum
  • Experience as a PYP teacher with advanced levels of PYP training
  • In-depth knowledge of the PYP philosophy, principles and practices
  • A practical understanding of collaborative planning and use of the PYP unit planners
  • Experience in leading others (i.e. leadership role, leading CPD, committee chair)
