ROLE SUMMARY:

The Head of Italian will take responsibility for the leadership and development of the Italian curriculum across the school, working collaboratively with the Leadership Team. The Head of Italian will effectively implement the IB programmes of study across the department, striving to ensure that the curriculum and all interactions meet the needs of our students and are in line with the mission, vision and values of the school.  A significant focus of the role is to ensure that our Italian language & literature curriculum is effectively developed and implemented to censure excellent academic outcomes for our students in this area.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership & Management

  • Lead the Italian department and curriculum.

  • Develop partnerships with local Italian institutions for collaboration and exams.

  • Share expertise on curriculum, assessment, and IBO developments.

  • Model excellent teaching and support subject staff.

  • Collaborate with staff, students, parents, and admin.

  • Use data to guide interventions and track progress.

  • Support MYP/DP Coordinators with staff development.

  • Work with colleagues to strengthen programme continuity.

Teaching & Learning

  • Raise academic standards and deliver strong value-added results.

  • Collaborate with MYP/DP Coordinators on curriculum development.

  • Support local curriculum and maintain external links.

Assessment & Reporting

  • Lead assessments and learning reviews.

  • Ensure quality and consistency of reports and rubrics.

Resource Management

  • Manage departmental resources and budget.

  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory with SLT.

Professional Development

  • Promote relevant PD for MYP/DP staff.

  • Identify and address team development needs.

  • Facilitate external networking and ongoing learning.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Proven experience in leading curriculum development

  • Strong leadership and team management skills

  • IB MYP/DP experience preferred; IB educator qualification desirable

  • Solid understanding of the Italian education system (Primary to Secondary)

  • Familiarity with assessment practices for 5° Elementare, Idoneità, and Terza Media

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and administrative skills

  • Ability to build positive rapport with students and colleagues while upholding high standards
