ROLE SUMMARY:

 

 

The Teaching Assistant supports teachers in delivering high-quality learning experiences that enable all pupils to succeed. The role focuses on supporting pupils’ academic, social and emotional development through structured classroom support, small-group work and targeted intervention, while helping maintain a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment.

Teaching Assistants work under the guidance of the class teacher and contribute to the smooth running of the classroom, helping pupils develop independence, confidence and strong learning habits.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work alongside the teacher to support the delivery of lessons across the curriculum.
  • Support pupils during whole-class teaching, guided practice and independent work.
  • Work with individuals or small groups of pupils to reinforce key concepts and skills.
  • Help scaffold learning so that pupils develop increasing independence.
  • Support pupils with varying learning needs including SEND, EAL and additional learning needs.
  • Assist in the preparation and organisation of classroom resources and learning materials.
  • Encourage positive attitudes towards learning and resilience when completing challenging tasks.
  • Help pupils remain focused and engaged during learning activities.
  • Contribute to the monitoring of pupil progress through informal observation and reporting.
  • Prepare and organise resources for lessons and activities.
  • Supervise pupils during transitions, break times or school activities when required.
  • Support school events, educational visits and extracurricular activities.
  • Help maintain learning displays and classroom organisation.
  • Ensure learning spaces are safe, tidy and conducive to learning.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Experience working with children in a school or educational setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • Organised and proactive approach to supporting learning
  • English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.0 or higher (or equivalent qualification such as TOEFL or Cambridge English), enabling clear communication with pupils and teachers in an English-medium learning environment.Desirable:
  • Qualification related to education, child development or childcare
  • Experience supporting pupils with additional learning needs
  • Experience supporting early literacy and numeracy development
  • Fluency in Spanish desirable to support communication with families and Spanish-speaking pupils
