The Special Education Needs Coordinator leads and coordinates the school’s provision for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The role ensures that students are identified early, supported effectively and enabled to make strong academic and personal progress.

The post holder is responsible for embedding a consistent and high-quality inclusive approach across the school, ensuring that classroom practice, targeted intervention and pastoral support work together to meet student need.

The role plays a central part in ensuring that provision meets the expectations of BSO standards, safeguarding requirements and the wider ambitions of King’s College School Panama.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the development, implementation and review of the school’s SEND and inclusion provision
  • Promote a consistent, whole-school approach to inclusive practice across Primary and Secondary
  • Ensure compliance with BSO standards, safeguarding expectations and local requirements
  • Establish and maintain robust systems to monitor the quality and impact of SEND provision.
  • Oversee the early identification of students with additional learning needs through clear screening and referral processes
  • Ensure high-quality Individual Education Plans or equivalent, with clear targets and measurable outcomes
  • Advise and support teachers with effective differentiation and adaptive teaching strategies
  • Deliver professional development focused on SEND and inclusive teaching
  • Ensure that support provided promotes student independence and does not lead to over-reliance.
  • Build strong partnerships with parents, ensuring clear and regular communication regarding student progress and support
  • Liaise with external professionals, including psychologists, therapists and specialists
  • Support admissions and transition processes for students with additional needs
  • Maintain accurate, secure and confidential student records
  • Promote strong collaboration between teachers, support staff and leadership

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology or a related field

  • Recognised teaching qualification

  • Proven experience supporting students with additional learning needs in a school setting

  • Strong understanding of inclusive teaching, intervention strategies and student support models

  • Experience of working collaboratively with teachers, parents and external professionals

  • Ability to use student data to monitor progress and evaluate the impact of provision

  • Evidence of ongoing professional development in SEND and inclusive practice is desirable

  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required

  • Experience in an international school setting is desirable.
