ROLE SUMMARY:

Established in 2012, King's College School, Panama, was the first British curriculum school in the country. We are proud that our students are pioneers of British education in the region, and even prouder of the exemplary education we continue to offer our growing learning community. As a diverse and inclusive international school, we educate +500 students from +40 nationalities, aged 2 to 18, who attend the Pre-Nursery division to Sixth Form.

A School Counselor provides academic, career, and personal guidance to students, helping them develop essential skills for success. They offer counseling, support mental well-being, and collaborate with educators and families to foster a positive and inclusive school environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Academic Support

  • Guide students in goal-setting, study habits, and time management.

  • Collaborate with teachers to support students with learning challenges.

  • Monitor academic progress and intervene when necessary.

 

2. Social-Emotional and Behavioral Support

  • Provide individual and group counseling for students facing emotional, family, or personal challenges.

  • Promote mental health awareness and well-being initiatives.

  • Develop and implement conflict resolution and peer mediation programs.

  • Identify and address cases of bullying or child protection concerns, following school policies.

 

3. Parental and Community Engagement

  • Communicate with parents regarding students' academic and emotional well-being.

  • Provide resources and workshops for parents on adolescent development and mental health.

  • Liaise with external professionals (psychologists, therapists) when additional support is needed.

 

4. School-Wide Initiatives & Professional Development

  • Organize awareness campaigns on topics such as stress management and inclusion among others.

  • Stay updated on best practices in school counseling and mental health.

  • Support faculty with strategies for student well-being and inclusive learning environments.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.

  • Experience in an international school setting (preferred).

  • Strong understanding of child development, emotional intelligence, and mental health support.

  • Excellent communication, empathy, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and staff.
