ROLE SUMMARY:

Established in 2012, King's College School, Panama, was the first British curriculum school in the country. We are proud that our students are pioneers of British education in the region, and even prouder of the exemplary education we continue to offer our growing learning community. 

The Head of English at Kings College School of Panama is a leadership role responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership to the English Department within our international school offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. The successful candidate will be a visionary educator with a passion for literature, language, and curriculum development. The Head of English will play a pivotal role in shaping an enriching English language and literature program that aligns with IB standards, fosters critical thinking, and prepares students for academic and real-world success.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the development, review, and enhancement of the English curriculum, ensuring alignment with IB standards and promoting a holistic approach to language acquisition, literature, and language analysis.
  • Collaborate with the IB Coordinator and other department heads to integrate interdisciplinary approaches and enhance the overall educational experience.
  • Provide professional development opportunities to keep faculty members abreast of the latest pedagogical approaches, technology, and educational research.
  • Stay informed about the latest trends and innovations in English language and literature education, incorporating best practices and technology into teaching methodologies.
  • Encourage and support faculty members in implementing innovative and student-centered teaching techniques.
  • Develop and implement effective assessment strategies to monitor student progress and ensure alignment with IB assessment criteria.
  • Analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement, implementing targeted interventions as needed.
  • Foster a love for literature, language, and effective communication skills among students.
  • Implement strategies to differentiate instruction, addressing the diverse learning needs of students and promoting an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with parents, students, and the broader school community to communicate the importance of English education and literacy.
  • Organize events, book clubs, and literary activities to engage the community in the appreciation of literature.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Master's or Ph.D. in English, Literature, Education, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in teaching English at the high school level, with a strong understanding of the IB curriculum.
  • Previous leadership experience in an educational setting, preferably as a head of department or a similar role.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.
