ROLE SUMMARY:

King's College School, Cascais is one of the recent additions to the Inspired Group. The College is currently open to Year 9 and will be opening Year 10 next year. Pupils primarily study the Cambridge International curriculum but will be offering IGCSEs from other examination boards as well. When Year 12 opens in September 2026, the school will be running the International Baccalaureate.

The College has fast established a reputation for excellence in Portugal and is set to become one of the most highly prized education schools not only in Portugal but beyond. Its location in one of the most prized districts in Portugal together with its unrivalled facilities and outstanding staff has led to it’s remarkable growth in its student roll to 704 students this year (a growth of 55% from the previous year).

The College will launch its new boarding provision in 2024. Facilities include provision for up to 50 pupils, all situated within the College walls on a campus above the main secondary building with stunning views of the Sintra mountains and the Atlantic coast. Boarders and boarding staff will have access to the school facilities including a 25m swimming pool, tennis and padel courts, gyms, basketball courts, dance and music facilities and 5G astroturf for multiple sports including football and rugby.

This is an exciting time to join the team as we are designing our growth roadmap and new staff will be able to actively participate in this project.

While this is an organisation committed to academic excellence, we believe that this is only possible if we are also committed to the personal and professional growth of our staff.

To join our team for the next academic year, we are looking for a well-qualified and talented Upper Junior Primary English Teacher, who has a passion for the teaching and learning of English.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Driving Academic Excellence & Independence: Plan and deliver lessons that inspire and challenge students to move from foundational learning to critical thinking and independent inquiry. You will ensure the curriculum (Cambridge Primary) is delivered with high expectations, individualising and differentiating learning so that every student is stretched and prepared for the rigours of the Senior School.
  • Data-Informed Progress & Assessment: Regularly assess students’ learning using both formative and summative data. You will provide high-impact, targeted feedback that encourages students to take ownership of their own progress, ensuring they are consistently challenged and supported in reaching their full potential.
  • Building a Mature & Inclusive Learning Environment: Establish a classroom culture of resilience and mutual respect, where students are invested in each other’s flourishing. You will foster an environment where "Junior" students feel valued as leaders within the Primary school and are encouraged to take calculated risks in their learning.
  • Collaborating and Sharing Best Practices: Work closely with colleagues across the Primary and Senior phases to ensure smooth transitions and curriculum continuity. You will be an active member of our professional learning community, sharing best practices and committing to continuous professional development to maintain the highest educational standards.
  • Enriching School Life & Leadership: Play a leading role in the school’s co-curricular programme and whole-school initiatives. You will help shape a well-rounded experience, potentially mentoring younger students or leading clubs that bridge the gap between Primary and Senior interests.
  • Partnering with Parents for Transition: Maintain proactive and professional communication with parents, building strong partnerships. You will provide clear guidance on their child’s academic and social-emotional development during these crucial "Junior" years, ensuring each student feels known, respected, and ready for their next educational stage.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Proven Experience in Key Stage 2: Extensive knowledge of the Cambridge Primary (or similar international) curriculum, with a track record of delivering high-quality learning for students aged 7–11.
  • Expertise in Transition & Progression: A deep understanding of how to bridge the gap between lower primary and the start of Secondary/Senior school education.
  • Data-Driven Pedagogical Skills: Proficiency in using formative and summative assessment data to differentiate instruction and ensure "outstanding progress" for students of all abilities.
  • Commitment to Student Agency: A passion for fostering independence, resilience, and critical thinking in young learners, moving beyond rote learning to inquiry-based education.
  • Strong Communication & Emotional Intelligence: The ability to build professional, trusting relationships with students and parents during these formative "pre-teen" years.
  • Collaborative & Growth Mindset: A desire to work across year groups and phases to ensure curriculum continuity and a shared vision for excellence.
  • Inspirational Leadership in the Classroom: The ability to empower students to take on leadership roles within the Junior school community.
  • Relevant Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in Education (or a relevant subject with a PGCE/Teaching Qualification). Experience with English as an Additional Language (EAL) learners is highly desirable in our international context.
  • Adaptability & Energy: The flexibility to thrive in a fast-growing, dynamic school environment like King’s College School, Cascais.
