ROLE SUMMARY:
King’s College School, Cascais is seeking a dynamic and passionate Public Speaking and Debate Teacher + Monitor to deliver English language, public speaking and communication-focused activities during the Summer Camp programme running from 24 June to 25 July 2026. The successful candidate will design and deliver a comprehensive two-week programme (repeated across two rotations) for students aged 9 and above, fostering confidence in spoken English within an enjoyable and supportive learning environment.
Alongside teaching responsibilities, the role includes student supervision and monitoring duties, supporting evening activities and contributing to the overall wellbeing, safety and positive experience of all camp participants.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver engaging lessons and hands-on activities focused on English language, public speaking and communication skills.
- Develop and adapt lesson content to meet diverse student needs and interests.
- Collaborate with the programme coordinator to organise and structure the two-week camp schedule and learning outcomes.
- Facilitate activities that build confidence in speaking English and develop vocabulary and listening skills.
- Differentiate learning to support varied skill and experience levels and ensure individual progress.
- Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes participation, collaboration and critical thinking.
- Implement assessment strategies to measure student progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Share knowledge and experiences that promote responsible language use.
- Supervise students (typically 10–15 students aged 9–17) and ensure they are never left unattended.
- Support evening activities, excursions and airport transfers in line with camp schedules.
- Participate in duty rotations, including breaks, meals, pool supervision, night monitoring and transport duties when required.
- Take responsibility for materials used during activities and help keep all areas clean and organised.
- Support first aid and wellbeing needs and report injuries, accidents or illnesses promptly.
- Attend training days, safeguarding sessions and all staff meetings.
- Follow school policies, staff handbook guidelines, uniform expectations, health and safety and safeguarding procedures at all times.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- A degree in English.
- Strong background in language skills and communication.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Previous experience in programme facilitation and curriculum delivery (advantageous).
- Must be 19 years of age or older.
- Advanced or Proficient English level (C1–C2 required).
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to plan, prioritise and organise tasks and activities.
- Creativity and ability to encourage innovation.
- Ability to work independently and remain self-motivated.
- Strong time-management skills and ability to meet commitments.
- Positive, adaptable attitude and ability to cope with new and complex situations.
- Commitment to professional behaviour, safeguarding and student wellbeing.
- Valid permission to work within the EU.
