MFL Portuguese Teacher

We are seeking an inspiring and passionate Teacher of MFL Portuguese to join our expanding Modern Foreign Languages department. In this role, you will deliver high-quality language lessons to non-native speakers, encouraging a deep appreciation for the Portuguese language and culture. The successful candidate will create an immersive learning environment that challenges and supports international students, ensuring excellent academic progress and active integration into local cultural contexts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lesson Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging Portuguese lessons aligned with the Cambridge International curriculum for non-native learners.
• Language Immersion: Foster an active, communicative classroom environment that maximizes target language exposure and builds student confidence.
• Differentiation: Adapt resources and teaching methodologies to support diverse language learning backgrounds and multi-level classes.
• Assessment & Tracking: Conduct regular formative and summative assessments, providing constructive feedback to guide student progress.
• Curriculum Development: Collaborate with the MFL team to design modern schemes of work and integrate interactive digital tools.
• School Engagement: Contribute to co-curricular activities, language weeks, whole-school events, and cross-departmental collaboration.
• Safeguarding: Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment aligned with school wellbeing and safeguarding policies.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

• Qualifications: Recognized University Degree in Portuguese, Modern Languages, or Education, paired with a teaching credential (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or Portuguese Habilitação Própria).
• Experience: Proven track record teaching Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PLE / MFL), preferably within an international school environment.
• Language Proficiency: Native or near-native fluency in Portuguese, with high professional proficiency in English for effective staff collaboration.
• Pedagogical Skills: Expert in modern language acquisition techniques, student-centered methodologies, and interactive technology integration.
• Cultural Passion: Enthusiastic about sharing Portuguese heritage, traditions, and literature with an international student body.
