ROLE SUMMARY:

We are seeking a passionate and organised Librarian to manage our dynamic school library, serving students and staff across both primary and secondary phases. The Librarian will play a key role in fostering a culture of reading for pleasure and academic research, ensuring students have access to high-quality resources, and supporting teaching and learning through library services and programming

 

This is a pivotal role in promoting literacy, information literacy, and digital citizenship within an international school context.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Oversee the day-to-day running of the school library, including circulation, cataloguing, and collection development.
    • Promote a reading culture across the school through events, book fairs, author visits, and reading challenges.
    • Support students and teachers in locating appropriate print and digital resources for research and leisure reading.
    • Deliver library sessions for students to develop information literacy and research skills.
    • Collaborate with teaching staff to integrate library resources into the curriculum.
    • Maintain an inclusive, welcoming, and age-appropriate environment for all users.
    • Manage the library budget, ordering new materials as needed.
    • Keep up to date with children’s and young adult literature, and trends in educational technology and information access.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

    • Experience working in a school or educational library setting.
    • Strong organisational and communication skills.
    • Passion for literature and literacy promotion among children and young people.
    • Confidence in using library management systems and digital research tools.
    • Fluent in English; Portuguese is a plus.
    • A relevant qualification in Library and Information Science or equivalent is desirable.
    • Friendly, professional, and student-centred approach.
