ROLE SUMMARY:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead, inspire, and manage the English department faculty, promoting a collaborative and professional working environment.
- Drive academic attainment and implement rigorous monitoring systems to track student progress against high targets.
- Design, review, and evaluate the English curriculum to ensure effective teaching, learning, and alignment with school goals.
- Support teachers through regular performance management, lesson observations, and sharing of pedagogical best practices.
- Oversee student assessments and ensure timely, data-driven interventions are established for students requiring support.
- Communicate department performance and student intervention strategies effectively to senior leadership and parents.
- Lead whole-school literacy initiatives and design enrichment programmes to foster a lifelong love for English.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
- University degree in English or a related field, plus a recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE or equivalent).
- Proven track record of successful leadership or middle management experience within an English department.
- Extensive experience teaching English within international frameworks, including Cambridge IGCSE and advanced levels (IBDP or A-Levels).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire trust in students, staff, and parents.
- Commitment to continuous professional development (CPD) and updating teaching techniques across the faculty.
- Full compliance with school policies, health and safety regulations, and child safeguarding frameworks.
