ROLE SUMMARY:

King's College School, Cascais is one of the recent additions to the Inspired Group. The College is currently open to Year 9 and will be opening Year 10 next year. Pupils primarily study the Cambridge International curriculum but will be offering IGCSEs from other examination boards as well. When Year 12 opens in September 2026, the school will be running the International Baccalaureate (IB).

The College has fast established a reputation for excellence in Portugal and is set to become one of the most highly prized education schools not only in Portugal but beyond. Its location in one of the most prized districts in Portugal together with its unrivalled facilities and outstanding staff has led to its remarkable growth in its student roll to 704 students this year (a growth of 55% from the previous year).

At King's College School, Cascais, we seek a dynamic and forward-thinking individual to serve as the Head of Computer Science and ICT. The successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping the strategic direction of our digital and computational programs, fostering an innovative environment where students develop the essential technological skills for future success in a rapidly evolving world.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement innovative curriculum frameworks aligned with global best practices in computational thinking and digital literacy.
  • Provide direction for the recruitment, induction, and professional development of Computer Science and ICT staff.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with parents, guardians, and industry partners to enhance the department's profile.
  • Manage budgetary allocations, high-tech resources, and specialized labs to create an elite, cutting-edge learning environment.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment that celebrates diversity and ensures all students can excel in technology.
  • Stay updated on current trends, emerging technologies, and research-based pedagogical practices in Computer Science.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaborative professional growth within the ICT department.
  • Collaborate with other school leaders to ensure digital integration and coherence across the school's educational programs.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of Computer Science initiatives, using data to meet the evolving needs of students.
  • Act as an ambassador for Computer Science and ICT within the school community and beyond, advocating for its critical role in a modern premium education.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Proven ability to lead a department with a focus on high student achievement and digital well-being.
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages (e.g., Python, Java) and a deep understanding of Computer Science theory and ICT applications.
  • Proficiency in data analysis to drive educational improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success in teaching and leading International Curricula (IGCSE/IB) and driving departmental growth.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire both staff and students.
  • Strong leadership qualities with a focus on fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Success in developing curriculum and assessment practices that reflect the latest advancements in the tech industry.
  • A dedication to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Computer Science program.
