ROLE SUMMARY:

King’s College School, Cascais, part of the Inspired Education Group, is a leading international school located on the beautiful Portuguese Riviera. The school combines academic excellence with innovation, creativity, and wellbeing, guiding students to become confident, compassionate, and globally minded young adults.

The school offers a bilingual stream (English and Portuguese) up to Year 5 and follows the Cambridge International Curriculum through to IGCSE and beyond, ensuring a rigorous and globally recognised academic pathway.

We are seeking an experienced and inspiring Head of Chemistry to join our Senior School team from January 2026. The successful candidate will lead the Chemistry department, supporting the continued growth and excellence of Science at King’s Cascais. They will teach across Key Stages 4 and 5, including IGCSE, and from September 2026 the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), and contribute to our strong culture of inquiry-based, practical learning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide strategic and academic leadership to the Chemistry department, ensuring excellence in teaching and learning.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Chemistry lessons aligned with the Cambridge IGCSE and, from September 2026, the IB Diploma.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of schemes of work and assessment strategies.
  • Mentor and support teachers within the Science faculty, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
  • Promote practical, inquiry-led science through effective use of laboratory facilities and a dedicated technician team.
  • Monitor student progress, analyse achievement data, and implement improvement strategies.
  • Encourage innovation, curiosity, and a love of Chemistry across all age groups.
  • Contribute to co-curricular enrichment and Science-related events.
  • Work closely with the Head of Science and Senior Leadership Team to drive academic standards and departmental development

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • A degree in Chemistry or a closely related discipline, with certified teaching status.
  • Proven experience teaching IGCSE and IB Diploma Chemistry (or A-Level equivalent).
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with experience managing or supporting a team.
  • Excellent subject knowledge and a passion for inspiring students through engaging and practical science.
  • A proactive and reflective approach to teaching, committed to innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to balance teaching and leadership responsibilities effectively.
  • A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for contributing to the wider life of the school.
  • The ability to thrive in a bilingual, multicultural, and forward-thinking environment such as King’s College School, Cascais.
