ROLE SUMMARY:

 

At King's College School, Cascais, an Early Years English Teacher is responsible for fostering foundational literacy and social development for children aged 3 to 5 within the British Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. This role, part of the Inspired Education Group, emphasizes play-based learning and inquiry in a bilingual international environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging English lessons focusing on literacy, phonics, and foundational communication skills through play, stories, and songs.
  • Bilingual Collaboration: Partner closely with Portuguese lead teachers to ensure a cohesive, dual-language experience for students.
  • Classroom Management: Create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment that supports socio-emotional growth and follows the EYFS principles.
  • Assessment: Monitor and track individual student progress, providing feedback to both school leadership and parents.
  • Community Engagement: Participate in co-curricular clubs, school events, and maintain open communication with families regarding child development.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

 

  • Qualifications: A university degree in an appropriate subject and a recognized teaching qualification such as a BEd or PGCE with an Early Years focus.
  • Experience: Proven experience in early childhood education, ideally within an international or bilingual setting.
  • Language Skills: Native or near-native English proficiency with strong communication skills.
  • Competencies:
    • Strong knowledge of phonics instruction and early literacy.
    • Confidence using ICT and educational technology to enhance interactive learning.
    • A collaborative mindset and a "continuous improvement" approach to professional development.
